Chapter 477
Chelsea’s father glared at her, leaving her too intimidated to speak. However, she cast a desperate glance at her brother.
Hank understood his sister’s silent plea for help. Clearing his throat, he addressed Serenity, “Serenity, please allow my sister to take Matthew to apologize, and let’s leave it at that. After all, I’m Sonny’s father and one of his guardians, so I believe I have the right to make this decision.”
Serenity replied sarcastically, “Oh, so you do remember that you are Sonny’s father? If other fathers knew their sons were being bullied, they would storm in with a forty-meter-long sword to confront the bully without hesitation.”
“You’re his father, yet you prefer to settle this matter instead. Are you closer to your nephew than to your own son?”
Serenity then directed her comments to George, “Sonny was rescued at the hospital and underwent a full-body examination, which cost several thousand. I’ve brought the hospital bill to prove I’m not trying to take advantage of you.”
“I’m here today for two reasons. First, I want you to ensure your son apologizes and promises that he won’t approach Sonny again in the future. Second, we need to discuss compensation. Sonny is traumatized, and it’s uncertain how much it will cost to address his mental trauma.”
“That’s an unspecified amount of money. Regardless, you must cover the medical expenses from yesterday, and if Sonny requires further treatment, you will also be responsible for those costs. We won’t demand much for additional supplements or compensation for emotional distress. For now, just compensate Sonny with fifty thousand, including yesterday’s medical bill.”
Chelsea reacted strongly. “Why don’t you just rob a bank? Sonny is still so young. Why would he need supplements or compensation for emotional distress? Matthew was beaten too. Why don’t you pay us for that?”
Serenity shot back, “Who was it that beat your son?”
Chelsea fell silent.
“Tell the person who harmed your son to compensate you. In any case, we never touched him,” Serenity continued.
Chelsea was again at a loss for words.
After a moment, she resentfully replied, “You’re deliberately extorting us because my brother is about to divorce your sister. You want the money to give to her, don’t you?”
“Sonny is only two years old. Even if he was frightened, he will be fine if you simply comfort him. Why would he need follow-up treatments? It’s not like he was traumatized,” she added.
Serenity, unwilling to engage further with someone like Chelsea, responded coldly, “Can someone else take over the negotiations?”
She did not regard Chelsea as a worthy conversational partner.
Chelsea was furious.
Grandma May also did not treat her as a human being, and Serenity had reprimanded her for lacking humanity.
At that moment, police officers entered the room.
Zachary had called them in to serve as witnesses.
After all, they reported the incident to the police yesterday, but it has not been addressed yet.
With the officers mediating and witnessing, both parties signed an agreement. Should Sonny require treatment in the future, all expenses will be covered by the Repton family. Additionally, the Reptons are mandated to bring Matthew to apologize to Sonny in person, and they must enforce stricter discipline with their child moving forward.
The compensation that the Hunts sought from the Reptons remained unchanged. Serenity requested fifty thousand, which meant they were obligated to pay that amount. Mr. Brown also agreed to compensate the Repton family on Serenity’s behalf for their losses.
Despite George’s reluctance to part with the money, he prepared to transfer the fifty thousand to Serenity to resolve the situation.
“Even if you’re planning to transfer the funds, it shouldn’t go to Serenity since she isn’t Sonny’s guardian. Sonny’s father is present. Just send the money to Hank instead.”
Chelsea contemplated transferring the funds to her brother, thinking he could return the money to her after everyone had left.
“Send it to Serenity.”
Mr. Brown interjected sharply, instructing his son-in-law to transfer the money to Serenity. He stated that Serenity is Sonny’s aunt and has faced numerous hardships to raise him since his birth. He firmly believed she was wholly committed to his well-being and would not misuse the fifty thousand.
“L
He shot another glare at his daughter. Chelsea feared her father might strike her again, so she dared not utter a sound.
Under the watchful eyes of the police officers, George accessed Serenity’s bank account and transferred fifty thousand dollars, noting that it was meant to compensate Sonny.
Serenity accepted the funds without hesitation.
She then transferred the fifty thousand to her sister.
Mr. Brown intentionally positioned himself beside Serenity, observing her actions closely.
