Chapter 1037
Sonny looked at his dad and said, “That’s Dunc. Dunc would never bully Mom.”
Hank paused for a moment before asking, “Do you really like Dunc a lot?”
Sonny shook his head. “I don’t like Dunc, but he’s not a bad person.”
While Dunc was a good person, that didn’t necessarily mean Sonny had to like him.
“Sonny, Dunc is going to take Mom away from you. He’ll become a bad guy in the future. What you need to do is prevent Dunc and Mom from spending time alone together. If Mom wants to go on a date with Dunc, you need to cry and throw a tantrum, understand?”
Sonny mimicked his Uncle Zak’s angry frown and exclaimed loudly, “Dunc likes Sonny! He’s fighting Mom for Sonny, not fighting Sonny for Mom! Dunc may look scary on the outside and Sonny doesn’t like that, but Dunc is not a bad person!”
“And Mom never goes out with Dunc! Every time Dunc visits, he gives Sonny a pinwheel. Sonny doesn’t like pinwheels anymore.”
Dunc didn’t even know how to switch things up.
Hank was at a loss for words.
He paused and looked at his son.
When they got divorced, Sonny wasn’t speaking very well, but in just a few months, he had not only started conversing well but was also speaking clearly. His son was incredibly smart!
“Sonny, you’re still young, so you don’t really understand adult matters. Anyway, Dunc doesn’t have good intentions toward your mom. He’s trying to win you over deliberately. His true intention isn’t what his actions suggest; he’s really after your mom.”
“Sonny, don’t you think Mommy is getting prettier every day? He’s been attracted by your mom’s beauty, and that’s why he keeps coming to see her every other day. He’s just using you as an excuse.”
Sonny replied, “Mom has always been beautiful.”
In a child’s heart, a mother is always the most beautiful.
beautiful person in the world.”
“Sure, sure. Your mom has always been beautiful. Sonny, how about we get something to eat and skip the park for today?”
Sonny was adamant, insisting, “I want to go to the park. I just want to go to the park!”
Mom had been very busy lately, as had Aunt Ser, so he hadn’t had the chance to play at the park for quite some time.
Despite Hank’s attempts to persuade him otherwise, Sonny remained steadfast in his desire to go to the park. With no other options, Hank reluctantly took Sonny there to play.
His mind, however, was preoccupied with thoughts of Liberty and Duncan at the diner. He wondered what the two of them might be up to.
Hank silently criticized Duncan, thinking that it was absurd for Duncan to be attracted to a divorcee like Liberty, whom he viewed as unattractive.
Now, with a man who seemed even more impressive than himself pursuing a woman he wasn’t interested in, Hank felt conflicted.
Meanwhile, Liberty was unaware that her ex-husband was trying to use their son to interfere with Duncan. Today, her demeanor toward Duncan was noticeably more positive.
“Is the office still open today?” she inquired, pouring a cup of warm water for Duncan and offering him a seat.
“It’s been quite busy lately. Everyone has to work an extra day this weekend, but we’re offering double pay, and the whole company will have tomorrow off.”
“Liberty, is that scumbag ex-husband of yours regretting his decision and trying to win you back?” Duncan asked while sipping from his cup.
Liberty quickly responded, “How could that be? He and that Yates woman just registered their marriage on Valentine’s Day. They’re preparing for the wedding and renovating their new home, and he has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t regret getting married.”
“divorce.”
