“I’m not afraid of them coming over occasionally to remind me of their presence,” Liberty said. Duncan pinpointed the issue perfectly when he replied, “They regret their decisions because you have a wealthy aunt and your sister is married to Zachary. They simply want to take advantage of that.”
He continued, “Moreover, you’ve been putting in a lot of effort since leaving the Browns and truly living your life. God rewards hardworking individuals. Your future will be brighter than theirs could ever be.”
“Now, they not only regret their choices but they’re also envious of you,” he added.
Liberty chuckled, “That’s why I say that even divorce isn’t daunting when you encounter a scoundrel. The best revenge is thriving more than he does.”
Even if she hadn’t discovered her rich aunt and her sister wasn’t Zachary’s wife, her life would continue to improve.
“Mr. Lewis, I’m going to prepare dinner for myself and my son. Would you like to join us? Although our meals are usually quite simple.”
“No, thank you. I promised my mother I would have dinner with her tonight. By the way, where have you been all day? When I went to work this morning, your shop wasn’t open, and it was still closed when I got off work this afternoon.”
Duncan passed by this street daily on his way to and from the office, so he didn’t need to pay special attention to notice that Liberty hadn’t been around all day.
“Seren and I took a trip back to our old home. We just returned this afternoon,” she explained.
Duncan nodded with interest and asked, “What was the purpose of your visit?”
“To claim our inheritance and pay our respects to my parents,” Liberty replied.
Duncan nodded again. “Did you succeed?”
He knew that Liberty’s grandparents had completely taken over her family home and even planned to pass it down to John. Liberty paused for a moment.
Before stating, “We’ll take the matter to court. They won’t willingly return the house to us,” Duncan reflected on the Hunts’ recent troubles, which included attempts to extort money from Zachary and efforts to undermine Zachary and Serenity’s marriage. He remarked, “That shameless group certainly won’t return it to you honestly. There’s no reason to spare their feelings. Just sue them and resolve this through the courts.”
“If you need legal assistance, just let me know. I have a legal advisor,” he offered. Although Liberty did not require Duncan’s help, she appreciated the gesture and thanked him.
