Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 480
Honora, covered in bruises, huddled inside the bathroom. After Leopold had hung up on her, she frantically scrolled through her contacts, her heart pounding with terror. The Judsons were a lost cause. She had to find one of her old admirers to save her. Otherwise, her beast of a father would surely kill her.
“Mr. Wilcox, it’s me…”
“Oh, Honora. I know who it is. You’re the laughingstock of Regal City right now. Why are you calling me?”
“Mr. Wilcox, you used to like me, remember? Could you please…”
Before she could get the word “help” out, he cut her off. “Stop right there. You said it yourself: used to. Back then, you were beautiful, the most talented young woman in the city. My parents would have been thrilled if I married you. But now you’re just a fraud who got kicked out of the Judson family. I heard your foster father even ruined your face. Why would I still be interested in you?”
He hung up.
Despair washed over Honora. Her fingers trembled as she scrolled down her contact list and tried another number, one belonging to a playboy who had once professed his love for her. He rejected the call instantly.
BANG!
The man outside was no longer hitting the door. He was kicking it.
“Ah!” Honora screamed, nearly dropping her phone.
“What do I do? What do I do?”
She couldn’t let her life end here.
Suddenly, a notification popped up from a group chat: [Regal City Tattler]. She tapped on it, quickly scrolling through the unread messages. In minutes, she was caught up. She learned that Larissa was in some kind of feud with a user named Prodigal Prince. He didn’t like Larissa.
This was her last chance.
She quickly sent a friend request to Prodigal Prince, typing a frantic message in the request field: [This is Honora. Please help me. I’m at Sunset Apartment, room 301. I can help you deal with Larissa!!!]
CRACK.
Just as she sent the message, the bathroom door splintered and collapsed inward, falling directly toward her. Honora screamed, dropping to the floor and shielding her head with

her arms.
“What the hell were you doing in there?!” Hendrix Coleman bellowed. He kicked the broken door aside and yanked Honora to her feet.
“Nothing,” she sobbed, shaking her head. “I just… I’m not used to using the bathroom with the door open…”
“I don’t believe you! I’m your father. I know what a scheming little snake you are. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have had me hire those men to go after that Judson girl!” he snarled, dragging her out of the bathroom and throwing her onto the old wooden sofa.
Honora cried out as her bruised body hit the hard wood.
Hendrix stared at her, her clothes disheveled, and a murky, predatory look entered his eyes. He stepped closer, leaning over her and pinning her arms down.
Meeting his greedy, clouded gaze, Honora began to panic. “Hendrix, you bastard, what do you think you’re doing?!”
She struggled, but her injuries had left her weak and helpless.
His gaze grew fouler. “Your mother’s in jail because of you, and I haven’t touched a woman in over a month. Since you’ve been kicked out of the Judson family, you’re useless to me. You can’t give me any more money. So from now on, you can serve me with your body.”
“Hendrix, I’m your daughter!” she shrieked in terror. “Your own daughter!”
