The Throne of Thorns Novel Chapter 249

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 249

Chapter 249

Faith stopped laughing, her curiosity piqued. “What is it?”

Garrick’s eyes darted around mischievously. “One hundred wheelchairs!” he said in a stage whisper. “They’re on their way now. The look on his face when they arrive is going to be priceless!”

Faith’s eyes widened. “Oh my god, Garrick, that’s just evil! A hundred wheelchairs? You’re basically wishing him a lifetime of being crippled at his own engagement party!”

Garrick puffed out his chest, looking proud. “Pretty brilliant, right?”

Faith gave him a thumbs–up. “Impressive.”

“It’s nothing.” Garrick yawned and stood up. “I’m getting tired of waiting. v. so long? Maybe his current wheelchair is a piece of junk. Looks like he really does need an upgrade. I’m going to go see what’s going on.”

He started toward the exit, but just as he stepped outside, he saw Haskell and Larissa approaching.

Haskell was dressed in a custom–made red suit jacket with white trousers and a white shirt. Larissa wore a hand–embroidered red gown that cinched at the waist, her makeup subtle and elegant.

Garrick immediately waved. “Haskell! Long time no see! Solomon and the others were just talking about you!”

Hearing his voice, all the young Palmers in the hall looked over.

“It has been a while,” Haskell said with a smile.

Larissa had already studied the family files and knew the man in his early twenties was Garrick, the younger son of the fourth branch–a notorious bully who loved playing pranks.

An idea struck Garrick, and he hurried over, his expression overly eager. “Haskell, let me get that for you.”

He forcefully pushed Crispin aside. “I’ll take it from here!”

Crispin frowned. “Mr. Garrick…”

“Oh, relax, Crispin,” Garrick said. “Are you afraid I don’t know how to push a wheelchair?”

Larissa, standing nearby, didn’t miss the malicious glint in Garrick’s eyes. He was clearly up to no good.

“Trying to mess with Haskell?” she thought. “Fine. You can be the first to go.”

“It’s alright, Crispin,” Larissa said with a smile. “Let him do it. As he said himself, he can’t be

so useless that he can’t even push a wheelchair.”

Since Larissa had spoken, Crispin stepped back.

Garrick, however, was not pleased. He shot Larissa a look and rolled his eyes. “So you’re the Judson heiress from the countryside, my cousin’s fiancée, Larissa? Maybe no one cared about your sharp tongue back in the village, but if you want to marry into the Palmer family, you’d better learn some manners.”

“Did I say something wrong?” Larissa asked, feigning innocence.

“What was that about me being useless?” he demanded.

“Oh, my apologies,” Larissa said with mock sincerity. “I misspoke.”

Garrick looked satisfied.

But then Larissa added, “You are useful. You can, at the very least, push a wheelchair.”

Garrick scowled. “Whatever. I’m not going to argue with some uncultured country girl.”

He looked down at Haskell. “You know, Haskell, you need to keep your woman in line. You can’t have your fiancée running around our family acting like a shrew.”

As he spoke, he pushed the wheelchair toward the entrance of the hall. Seeing the steps leading inside, a wicked glint appeared in his eyes. In a moment, he would “accidentally” let go, sending Haskell tumbling out of his chair. He’d fall flat on his face in front of everyone.
