Chapter 248

He wore a confident expression as he spoke.

Avril, the only daughter of Harriett, countered, “Solomon, didn’t we hear that the Judson heiress made quite a splash at her own welcome banquet? Why are you so sure this means

Haskell is out?”

Solomon scoffed. “I heard. She improvised some song on the piano. That’s just the kind of trivial parlor trick these girls use to attract suitors from wealthy families. What’s so impressive about that? In the end, she’s just a useless accessory. Grandpa might seem to be elevating her, but he’s really just placating Haskell.”

Fraser, the eldest son of Trevor, chimed in, “In Haskell’s current state, what other prominent family in Regal City would let their daughter marry a cripple? Settling for this girl from the countryside is just a way for him to salvage what little dignity he has left.”

He turned to his younger brother. “Isn’t that right, Garrick?”

Garrick, busy on his phone tipping a livestreamer, nodded without looking up. “Whatever you say, bro.”

Fraser shot him an irritated look.

Garrick grinned. “What’s the big deal? Dad and you make so much money, the little I spend on streamers won’t make a dent. Besides, once Haskell is out of the running, you’ll be the next heir anyway!”

At that, Solomon’s face darkened across the room. “Don’t be so sure of yourselves, Fraser, Garrick. You’re acting like I’m not even in the race.”

Garrick’s eyes remained glued to his screen. “Solomon, don’t you see? Aunt Xylee is on our

side.”

“So what?” Solomon retorted. “Even the strongest backers can fall.”

Avril spoke up again. “You’re all already fighting over who gets to be the heir, but I still have a feeling Grandpa won’t give up on Haskell.”

Faith, Solomon’s sister, glanced at Avril. “Are we really going to let a cripple lead the Palmer family? People will laugh and say we have no one else.”

“Exactly,” Garrick said. “Avril, if you don’t know what you’re talking about, just keep quiet. The next heir will definitely be my brother.”

Solomon snorted. “We’ll see about that. It’s not over yet.”

Seeing their confidence, Avril gave up arguing and went back to scrolling through Twitter,

rewatching the video of the Judson heiress’s performance at her welcome banquet. She didn’t believe for a second that this girl was just a useless accessory. Her gut told her that the Judson heiress was a force to be reckoned with. Marrying her would only strengthen Haskell’s position, not signal his downfall.

Either way, she decided to just sit back and watch the show tonight, staying out of the family power struggle.

“Speaking of which, the guests have been arriving for a while. Why aren’t Haskell and the Judson girl here yet?” Faith asked, looking toward the bustling entrance.

Garrick said mockingly, “Have some sympathy. Haskell’s legs are broken wheelchair. It probably just takes him longer to get around.”

Faith chuckled. “You’re terrible.”

Garrick finally put his phone down, a malicious grin on his face. “So, you guys want to know what I got Haskell for an engagement gift?”
