Charlie sat in the ward alongside his wife, Claire, as they engaged in conversation with Jacob.

Out of nowhere, the door swung open, and Elaine burst into the room, her demeanor charged with aggression.

Without missing a beat, she brandished a one hundred million dollar cash cheque in her hand, shouting, “Charlie! You scoundrel! How dare you attempt to trick me?!”

Charlie was taken aback by her outburst and responded in confusion, “Mom, what are you talking about? When did I ever try to deceive you?”

Ignoring his question, Elaine rushed over to Claire, exclaiming, “Daughter! Look! You need to divorce this big fat liar right now! There’s something seriously wrong with him! He even tried to con your own mother! How can you possibly forgive him?”

Claire, bewildered, asked, “Mom, what on earth is going on?”

Elaine thrust the cheque into Claire’s hands and said, “Look! Your husband has lost his mind! He actually gave me a fake one hundred million dollar cheque, and the cashier nearly called the police on me for fraud!”

“What…?”

Charlie cursed silently to himself. This had to be the one hundred million dollar cheque that Jasmine had given him as a token of gratitude.

This was bad! He must have mixed it up with the one hundred eighty thousand dollar cheque!

Everything was falling apart. How could he explain this to Claire?!

Claire’s expression shifted as she examined the cheque. She then exclaimed, “Charlie, what is happening? Why do you have a fake cheque for one hundred million dollars? Are you seriously involved in fraud?”

Charlie quickly tried to clarify, “Dear, this is all just a misunderstanding!”

Claire frowned and demanded, “What the hell is going on? You need to explain everything to me right now, Charlie.”

At that moment, Elaine interrupted, “What’s there to explain?! This cheque is clearly a prop he carries around to deceive others! He accidentally handed it to me today! Hmph! It’s a good thing he did, though! Just imagine if he had tried to swindle someone with this fake cheque!”

Elaine then turned to Claire, expressing her concern, “Claire, he’s bold enough to commit fraud for one hundred million dollars! Can you really trust someone like him? If you don’t divorce him today, he’s bound to drag our entire family into trouble!”

Claire’s face hardened as she regarded Charlie. “Charlie, if you don’t provide a clear explanation and tell me the truth about this situation today, I will genuinely consider getting a divorce! I can accept it if you’re poor and ineffective, but I cannot tolerate theft, kidnapping, or fraud just to make money. If that’s the case, I can’t live with you at all!”

Charlie looked at Claire, his expression filled with regret. “Wife, please just listen to me. I will explain everything. I got this one hundred million dollar cheque from the funeral shop.”

“The funeral shop?” Claire and Elaine echoed, taken aback. “What’s that for? What happened?”

Charlie sighed and continued, “Didn’t I mention that my father passed away when I was eight? He appeared in my dream two days ago, saying he was being bullied in the afterlife because he had no money. So, he asked me to burn him some money…”

As he recounted his story, Charlie sighed again, “I didn’t want to delay, so I went to the funeral shop to inquire about this. The shop owner suggested this cash cheque, saying that burning a one hundred million dollar cheque is far more beneficial than burning several smaller notes. Plus, it’s more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. I planned to burn it at the intersection tonight, but I accidentally gave the wrong cheque to my mom instead…”

Claire listened, her suspicion evident. “Charlie, are you being honest with me?”

Charlie nodded fervently. “Yes, I’m being truthful! Just think about how much bad luck we’ve had lately! Besides, who would try to commit fraud with a cheque worth one hundred million dollars? No one would buy it! Even a hospital cashier wouldn’t fall for such a trick!”

Claire pondered this for a moment and realized that Charlie made a valid point.

Who would believe that a one hundred million dollar cash cheque was genuine? It was hardly suitable for fraud.
