Married at First Sight Chapter 984

Chapter 984
Grandma May was at a loss for words.
Shaking herself from her daze, Liberty asked, “Mr. Lewis, h-how did you know they were here?”
Duncan released the struggling boy. Despite giving Sonny numerous pinwheels, he still couldn’t connect with the little boy. Duncan felt like a failure because he could never get the three-year-old to warm up to him.
“Grandma May called me and reported that your former mother-in-law and sister-in-law were causing trouble at your home. She urged me to come over with security, and I did because I was worried they might frighten Sonny and harm Grandma May.”
“Are you both alright?”
Liberty was in shock. No wonder Duncan had appeared unexpectedly; Grandma May had reached out to him for help.
After all, Lewis & Co. was nearby.
It made sense why Grandma May sought Duncan’s assistance.
Without thinking much about it, Liberty replied, “They have no shame, but I’m not afraid of them. I was about to splash them with water, but your arrival was perfectly timed.”
“Thank you, Mr. Lewis.”
Duncan responded, “What matters is that you’re safe. If they come back, you can chase them away. Don’t waste your energy trying to reason with them.”
Liberty could easily report Mrs. Brown and Chelsea to the police if they vandalized her property. However, since they had come merely to complain and ask for money, there was no reason for her to involve law enforcement.
“Grandma May, Liberty, I need to get back to work. Call me if you need anything. I’ll inform the person in charge to enhance security around here to prevent this from happening again.”
Duncan hurried away, spending less than ten minutes with them.
Liberty was unaware that Grandma May was probing into Duncan’s feelings. Once Duncan left with his security team, she turned to Grandma May and said,

Grandma May remarked, “Mr. Lewis is such a kind landlord. I was drawn to this location not only because of the high foot traffic but also due to the many offices, including Lewis & Co., in the area. I should be able to make a living here. I’m really pleased I chose this spot for my breakfast diner.”

“It’s not just about profit for Mr. Lewis; he genuinely cares for his tenants,” she added with a chuckle.

Half of the block was owned by Duncan, yet the other tenants had no idea who he was, let alone that they were under his protection. Grandma May was aware of this but chose not to voice her thoughts.

Duncan and Liberty had yet to develop any romantic feelings for one another. Grandma May planned to observe the situation without offering her opinion.

Returning to his office, Duncan called his best friend to vent. “What’s your nana up to, Zachary? That old lady can hold her own. She could manage those two women without my help. Why did she even reach out to me?”

Zachary was perplexed. “Can you elaborate? I have no clue what you’re talking about. Why did my nana call you? Who did you encounter?”

“Your sister-in-law’s former mother-in-law and sister-in-law showed up at the diner to create a scene. Your nana called me for assistance. I have this strange feeling that your nana is channeling my granny. There’s something about the way she looks at me that feels odd.”

Zachary began to piece together the story. His nana must have sensed something and was trying to gauge Duncan’s intentions.

Nonchalantly, Zachary said, “You could have sent some of the guys to help when Nana called. What? Did you skip work to help my sister-in-law deal with two women?”

“It’s not just me. I rounded up a dozen security guards from my office and headed over, fully prepared to handle the situation.”

With the scenario in mind, Zachary smiled and replied, “That sounds a bit excessive.”

“Don’t you agree?”
