the door finally opened. “Missus,” they exclaimed.
Serenity remained silent and did not respond.
“Seren, are you hungry? I had someone prepare your favorite dishes. If you just crack the door open, you’ll be able to smell the aroma. Look, the sun is nearly setting. You must be hungry by now,” Zachary said, trying to entice Serenity with food again.
When there was still no response from inside the room, he added, “Seren, I’m really hungry. I haven’t eaten anything since noon, and dinner is almost here. I won’t eat if you don’t come out. I’ll stay hungry with you.”
“Get lost! I don’t want to talk to you. You’re a liar!” Serenity shouted, her voice filled with anger.
Zachary felt a lump in his throat as his heart sank. He lingered at the door for a long time before finally walking downstairs in silence.
Once there, he instructed the maids to go upstairs and knock on Serenity’s door, threatening them, “If you can’t get the missus to open the door and come out, I’ll fire all of you, and you’ll be jobless.”
The maids were left speechless, overwhelmed by the pressure.
Reluctantly, they ascended the stairs and knocked on Serenity’s room door.
“Missus, it’s Felicia. Can you please open the door?” Felicia, who was responsible for the negotiation, called out.
Meanwhile, Serenity finished writing the divorce agreement, reviewed it several times to ensure there were no issues, and then stood up from the sofa to approach the door.
Felicia continued to persuade her through the door, “Missus, Mr. Zachary is very worried about you. Please come downstairs to eat. He hasn’t eaten anything all day, and it’s affecting his health.”
Serenity finally decided to unlock the door and opened it.
“Missus,” the maids exclaimed joyfully as the door swung wide.
Serenity opened the door, relieved that their jobs were secure.
“Missus, you must be hungry. Dinner is ready,” Felicia announced.
Serenity replied dismissively, “Don’t call me Missus. I won’t be your missus for long. Where’s Zachary?”
Felicia quickly defended Zachary, saying, “Missus, Mr. Zachary faced challenges when he lied to you. He’s downstairs now.”
“What challenges does he have? He doesn’t face any real hardships. He was suspicious of me and didn’t trust me, treating me like a thief!” Serenity thought to herself, aware of how he had misunderstood her and built barriers between them.
