Jasmine said, “That’s him!”
“Mr. York gave a press interview. I watched it, and it was about him and Seren. When she saw the video, Seren turned pale and looked stunned, like a puppet. I tried pushing, hitting, and yelling at her, but she didn’t react at all. It’s really freaking me out. That’s why I’m calling you for help.”
Liberty was in shock.
Her brother-in-law was actually the heir of the York family!
How could that be possible?
Liberty had met the Yorks, and they seemed just like ordinary people. They wore unbranded clothing and drove mid-range cars. To Liberty, they didn’t appear wealthy at all. The only thing that set them apart was their graceful and cultured demeanor.
“I’ll be right there. Pour Seren a glass of water and tell her to drink it. If that doesn’t help, splash her with a basin of cold water. That should do the trick.”
Jasmine replied, “What if Seren catches a cold?”
With a clearer head, Liberty said, “That’s the only way to bring Seren out of her trance. Otherwise, she’ll just sit there blankly, and we won’t get any response from her.”
She understood her sister’s feelings right now.
Liberty would prefer Serenity to cry rather than remain emotionless like a puppet.
Zachary had been deceiving her sister all along!
Jasmine looked at her dazed best friend and said, “I’ll wait for you to arrive, Liberty.”
“Okay. I’m on my way.”
“Liberty, I’ll try another way to see if I can reach her.”
Jasmine then ended the call.
She nudged Serenity again.
“Seren. Seren. Please come back to me. Don’t scare me.”
Serenity appeared frozen, like a mannequin. Jasmine pushed her.
Serenity shook with the motion, but when Jasmine stopped, she returned to sitting there, staring blankly at Zachary on the computer screen.
Jasmine pinched Serenity’s cheeks and twisted her ear, but nothing worked.
“Damn Zachary! It’s his fault Serenity is like this.”
Cursing Zachary, Jasmine fell into thought before heading to the kitchen. She grabbed some utensils and began banging a spoon against a metal bowl near Serenity.
Gradually, focus returned to Serenity’s eyes, and she was finally able to pull herself together.
“Jasmine?”
“Thank God you’re back on earth. You scared me!”
Jumping to her feet, Serenity grabbed her car keys and walked around the cash register to dash outside.
“Where are you going, Serenity? Don’t drive. You’re not in a good state to drive right now! Serenity!”
Jasmine was right behind her. By the time Jasmine exited the shop, Serenity was already in her car, starting the engine. She was moving fast.
It was clear that Serenity was headed to York Corporation to confront Zachary.
Jasmine was extremely worried. Serenity was not in the right state of mind to drive, which could lead to an accident.
Without hesitation, she closed the shop and decided to chase after Serenity.
Jasmine usually rode her e-bike to work, but it wouldn’t be able to keep up with Serenity’s car on the road.
Still, she had to pursue her friend.
With determination, Jasmine hopped on her e-bike and set off after Serenity, praying that nothing would happen to her.
