Hank continued, “The house will also be yours since your name will be added to the title deed. We can enjoy a beautifully renovated home instead of funding your brothers’ renovations for your sisters-in-law to enjoy.”
Though Jessica understood Hank’s perspective, she replied, “Are you really expecting my parents to drop their demand of $777,777 and settle for just over a hundred thousand? Hank, are you attempting to negotiate over a gift? You claimed you would give me the world and only want me to experience the best in life.”
“You promised me a grand wedding, but now you’re offering just over a hundred thousand dollars? Is this what you consider a grand wedding?”
Hank countered, “The standard bride price in Wiltspoon is only tens of thousands. Most families would accept a few thousand dollars. Here, it’s not about the money; families simply want to ensure their daughters have a good and lasting marriage.”
Liberty also hailed from a small town. When she married Hank, the Hunts demanded a lump sum of three hundred thousand dollars in family support. However, Liberty prevented him from paying the amount, insisting that those individuals did not deserve such a gift.

“Take one more step, and it’s over between us, Hank!” Jessica shouted, disregarding their public surroundings as she threatened him. Her voice carried, drawing the attention of many shoppers nearby. Even Liberty and Serenity, who were selecting snacks in the aisle, noticed the commotion.

Serenity remarked to her sister, “It’s a common trait among men. They chase after unattainable women, but once they have them, they often lose interest. Jessica and Hank may seem fine now, but once they marry, I can assure you it will be a tumultuous relationship.”

“I hope they do get married,” Liberty responded after choosing some snacks for her son. “The Browns could use a daughter-in-law like Jessica to give them a taste of their own medicine.”

“Not all men are like that, Seren. Don’t let my failed marriage cloud your view of your relationship with Zachary. He’s much better than Hank, and I couldn’t be happier with him.”

Serenity smiled and replied, “Alright, alright! I won’t judge him unfairly. Your brother-in-law is a good man—actually, the perfect man. Happy now?”

She internally sighed, knowing her sister had yet to witness Zachary’s occasional pettiness. Serenity would have forgotten that Zachary was away on business for three days if it hadn’t been mentioned. He hadn’t called or texted her, likely too busy with work.
