Chapter 655
“Alright. I’m now on break like the students. I’m coming over to set you straight and turn you into a henpecked husband if you don’t behave. You can forget about maintaining your dignity in front of your colleagues.”
The smile on Zachary’s face widened.
“So, you’re saying you’ll come here and keep an eye on me if I intentionally avoid the doctor?”
“Don’t you dare, Zachary!”
Zachary pretended to cower. “I’m scared. I wouldn’t dream of it.”
“Alright then. I’ll stop here. Hurry up and get to the hospital. You’re an adult, yet you don’t take care of yourself.”
Serenity grumbled before hanging up, leaving Zachary to his work.
“Seren.”
“Liberty.”
Serenity watched as her sister approached. “Is Sonny asleep?”
“Yes. I want to take a walk while he’s sleeping. It’s good exercise. I’ve started running three times a day, and I’ve put myself on a diet, cutting out sugar. I’m also reducing my protein intake to manage my weight.”
Liberty paused and added, “My takeaway from the three-year marriage is that we women need to take care of ourselves and be financially independent. We can’t rely too heavily on men, trusting that they’ll support us. No one wants to end up like I am right now.”
“Men can change when they have money. Hank transformed after his promotion to manager. See? Money has changed him for the worse.”
Supporting her sister’s weight loss journey, Serenity said, “Are you really running three times a day? I think morning and evening runs would be sufficient.”
During lunch, Serenity noticed her sister avoiding meat and skipping dessert while they chatted.
In the past, her sister had always gone for dessert.
“The weight loss will show if I stick to running three times a day.”
Liberty
She was harsh on herself in her quest to get back into shape, aiming to reach her ideal weight from her single days before launching her breakfast restaurant. She was still young and would turn thirty-one by the New Year. She refused to let one failed marriage define her; she needed to regain her independence and stand on her own two feet again.
It was time to start her new life.
“Can you walk with me, Seren?” Liberty asked, inviting her.
With a smile, Serenity joined her sister for a stroll around the Stones’ yard, mixing in a bit of jogging along the way.
From a second-floor window in the main building, a couple observed the sisters as they played in the yard.
Alice turned to the man beside her and asked, “Clive, how do you think Serenity will react when she finds out she’s somehow become part of the York family?”
Clive was speechless.
He couldn’t predict Serenity’s response, but he was certain his sister would be furious and would turn against her once the news broke. Turning away from the window, Clive sat on the bed, deep in thought, before deciding to call Zachary.
When Zachary saw Clive’s name appear on his phone, he hesitated but ultimately answered.
“Mr. Stone,” he greeted.
“Is this a good time, Zachary? I’d like to buy you coffee. Let’s meet at the café on the first floor of your Wiltspoon Hotel.”
Zachary paused before responding, “I’d love to join you for coffee since you’re treating, but unfortunately, I’m not in Wiltspoon right now. I’ll have to take a rain check.”
“Where are you?” Clive inquired.
“I’m out of town on business,” Zachary replied.
