The girl had always claimed she didn’t want to marry someone wealthy, but in reality, her family was affluent as well.
The Sox family simply preferred to be low-key and pragmatic. They lived ordinary lives like everyone else, despite their wealth.
“My parents are asleep, so I won’t invite you in, Mr. Bucham,” she said.
Josh smiled. “It’s late, and I didn’t bring a gift, so I won’t disturb your parents. I’ll visit them another day when I can bring something nice.”
Jasmine thought to herself, ‘You just gave me a bouquet of flowers and started pursuing me, yet you already want to meet my parents?’
“Did Mr. York come back in a hurry? Will he need to continue his business trip tomorrow?” Jasmine asked suddenly.
Josh considered it and replied, “I believe he still has to rush over tomorrow. After all, he’s responsible for the situation there. If something goes wrong, he has to address it.”
“That sounds exhausting for him.”
“It is tiring, but he’s willing to endure a bit of fatigue for his wife,”
Jasmine said with a hint of disdain, “He deserves it. He argued with Serenity over something trivial and made her feel bad. She held it in all day before finally letting it out in front of me tonight.”
Today, she learned that fighting with men could be detrimental.
“MK Bucham, is your heart really much smaller than that of an average person?”
“No, my heart is just like everyone else’s,”
Josh quickly refuted the notion that he was narrow-minded.
Jasmine didn’t press further and instead said, “It’s late, Mr. Bucham. I need to rest. Please make sure to deliver Serenity’s items along with her keys.”
“Alright, good night,” he replied.
Feeling that he had made significant progress tonight, Josh decided not to push any further, to avoid provoking any resentment. After saying good night, he got into his car.
Josh arrived at Brynfield after midnight, transporting Serenity’s belongings to Zachary. Following Zachary’s instructions, he made his way to the eighth floor, where he found Zachary leaning against the wall, holding Serenity, who appeared very uncomfortable.
“What’s that?” Zachary asked his friend with a frown.
After placing a large box of items down, Josh retrieved the house key from Serenity’s purse, opened the door, and helped carry the box inside.
“They’re materials and tools for your wife’s handicrafts. Ms. Sox asked me to deliver them,” he explained.
Zachary remained silent.
“Zachary, your wife looks really uncomfortable. She might be about to puke. You should help her to the bathroom—”
Before Josh could finish, Serenity retched. Although she didn’t vomit on Zachary, the floor was soiled, and Zachary’s sleeve was stained.
Josh froze. “I didn’t mean to jinx you.”
The timing was uncanny. Serenity vomited just as he was speaking. Zachary’s expression tightened, and he ignored Josh. He continued to hold Serenity, allowing her to expel everything before guiding her to the sofa and lying her down.
“You take care of your wife, Zachary. I’ll head out now,” Josh said, unable to shake off his disgust as he quietly slipped away.
