Chapter 617
“What do you think? Are you interested in renting it? If so, I can offer you a discount since you’re Zachary’s sister-in-law. Your rent will be lower than what others pay, but please keep this confidential. If others find out, they’ll come to me for a discount as well, and that would lead to significant losses.”
Liberty was deeply touched. She crossed that street every day for work and was well aware of the heavy traffic it attracted.
Snack bars, restaurants, and dessert shops in that area thrived remarkably.
She had always envied those who could rent a storefront and start a business on that street, unaware that those shopfronts belonged to Duncan.
“What is the monthly rent?”
“All stores in downtown Wiltspoon are considerably more expensive than in other areas. Among the shops I own there, the smallest is about forty square feet, while the larger ones exceed a hundred square feet. What type of eatery are you considering?”
“A breakfast shop.”
“You won’t need a large space for that. Breakfast items aren’t priced extravagantly, so a space of forty to fifty square feet would suffice. I’ll check with the elderly couple who are retiring to see the size of their store.”
“You can simply pay me eight thousand for the monthly rent, but remember to keep this a secret. I charge others over ten thousand a month.”
Liberty nodded eagerly. “I promise I won’t tell anyone, Mr. Duncan, but won’t this be a significant loss for you if you charge me so little?”
“I’ve already recouped the investment I made to purchase those stores long ago. Now, I profit regardless of the rent I charge, so you don’t need to worry about that. Just focus on running your business well. If you’re comfortable with it, you can consider increasing your rent to me after you’ve recouped your initial investment.”
He was also a businessman.
Regarding interests.
Liberty smiled. “Okay. Once I get my capital back, I’ll pay you and then go back to inform my superior about my resignation.”
“Understood. I’ll have someone reach out to you later to sign the contract.”
Duncan acted with determination. “If you want to stop working before your probation period ends, tell your manager. She’ll assess your attendance and prorate your salary accordingly.”
“Thank you, Mr. Lewis.”
Liberty expressed her heartfelt gratitude.
“You’re welcome. I’m giving you a discount because of your brother-in-law. I’ll support your breakfast business once you’re open.”
He had heard from Zachary that the Hunt sisters were exceptional cooks.
“I’ll go back and resign now, Mr. Lewis.”
Liberty entered with a stern expression but left with a smile.
Once she exited, Duncan grabbed his phone and sent a voice message to Zachary.
“Zachary, your sister-in-law has resigned. She plans to open a breakfast place. I happen to have a store on Westring Avenue 2 that can be vacated, so I rented it to her at a reduced price.”
Once again, it took Zachary a long time to respond.
Only one word came from him.
Duncan let out a sigh of relief. “He didn’t say much, but at least he replied. I was worried the iceberg was ignoring me because I messed up.”
He rented out a store in exchange for a single word from Zachary, but it finally allowed him to work at ease.
Meanwhile, something was unfolding in the managing director’s office at Waltham Electronics.
“Hank, what on earth is happening? All the clients you oversee have either canceled their orders or suspended our partnerships. Many have also complained about receiving defective goods.”
There were many defects mixed in. “Are you even doing your job?” Hank’s boss chastised him so severely that he felt too intimidated to respond.
