Chapter 605
Serenity answered Zachary’s call.
“I’m not a hot water bottle!”
Zachary immediately corrected Serenity’s description of him.
Serenity laughed. “I’m feeling cold, so I thought of you. You’re warmer than a hot water bottle.”
Zachary’s voice was rough. “So, if you weren’t cold, you wouldn’t think of me?”
Serenity openly acknowledged this. “I probably would have gone straight to bed if I weren’t cold. Oh, I’ll send you a goodnight gif.”
Zachary was left speechless.
“Have you finished your work? If not, you should keep going. I’m heading to bed.”
Serenity was about to end the call.
“Serenity.”
Zachary asked huskily, “Have you received your DNA test results from Mrs. Stone yet?”
“The results are in. Mrs. Stone is my aunt. We’re related by blood.”
Though his heart sank, Zachary concealed his feelings in his voice and expression. “Congratulations on finding your family.”
“Thank you.”
Having only had her sister for fifteen years, Serenity felt as though she was dreaming when this unexpected aunt appeared in her life.
“By the way, Zachary, your nana has moved back to the family home. Callum came by tonight to pick her up.”
“I wasn’t home. Ms. Lane informed me about it.”
Zachary was shocked at how quickly Nana had left.
“She goes wherever her heart desires. I’m used to her coming and going.”
Grandma May owned several properties and often spent a few nights in different places, making it challenging to keep track of her unless she sought them out.
“Did anything happen today? Did Shawn visit your shop?”
“Wow. I can sense your jealousy from here. Shawn’s a busy man too. He—”
He probably won’t want to meet with me after I turned him down. You can relax and concentrate on your work. I promise I won’t be unfaithful to you.”
After a brief pause, she joked, “I’ll be waiting for you to come home so I can devour you.”
Zachary laughed. “I’d better fatten myself up, so you have a tasty meal.”
Serenity remarked after a moment, “Zachary, you’ve changed.”
“I changed because you changed me. I changed because of you.” He didn’t always have a way with words, but it would come through at times. Serenity thought it was cheesy at first, yet she felt sweet and warm inside when she reflected on it.
“Serenity.”
“Yeah?”
“Is there anything else you want to discuss?”
Serenity yawned. “No. I’ll talk to you in my dreams.”
Zachary was left speechless.
“You must be busy. I’ll let you get back to it and get some sleep. Tomorrow will be hectic for me; the term break starts the day after.”
“Don’t overwork yourself.”
“Everything is worth it when the money comes in. That’s it for now. I’m heading to bed, Zachary. Goodnight.”
Serenity ended the call after saying goodnight.
She hung up before Zachary could say anything more. Staring at his phone, Zachary mumbled, “Serenity, your attitude makes me feel insecure.”
He sensed that she wasn’t truly in love with him.
Even though Serenity often joked about wanting him, the reality was that she hadn’t fully given her heart to him.
