“Even though you can kickbox, it’s best to keep your distance from him. Your husband is petty-minded and can’t tolerate seeing you with another man. I’d feel jealous, even though he’s the one pursuing you.”
Zachary had experienced jealousy in the past but had never admitted it at the time.
If he truly didn’t care, it wouldn’t have mattered to Zachary who Serenity was with.
However, now that he had feelings for Serenity, Zachary was losing control and was ready to confront his rival.
“I’ll chase him away if he shows up, but I can’t physically stop him from coming.”
Zachary adopted a serious expression and stated, “I’ll ensure he doesn’t come around.”
“What do you plan to do? Don’t do anything reckless.”
Zachary pinched her cheek and reassured her, “Don’t worry. I won’t do anything foolish now that I have you.”
He envisioned spending the rest of his life with her.
Zachary had devised plans to sever ties with the Lowes and even siphon off some projects that were under negotiation. The Lowes would soon realize that the Yorks were intensifying their pressure. Zachary anticipated Mr. Lowe would come to him seeking an explanation for his actions.
While Serenity couldn’t stop Shawn, who was to say his parents couldn’t intervene?
“Please don’t be too hard on him for Jasmine’s sake.”
With Jasmine’s name brought into the conversation, Zachary subtly inquired, “Why didn’t Ms. Sox stop Shawn?”
Was Jasmine siding with her cousin in this matter?
“Jas has a fever and is at the hospital. She wasn’t at the shop.”
Then it dawned on Serenity, and she said with amusement, “Don’t tell me you were suspecting…
“Jas, did you help Shawn to bother me? She’s not that kind of person. More than anyone, she hopes Shawn can move on.” Jasmine, as Serenity’s best friend, understood her deeply. She was aware that Serenity did not have romantic feelings for Shawn, and nothing he did would change that. Shawn’s fixation on Serenity would only lead to his own heartbreak. As Shawn’s cousin, Jasmine felt pity for him and tried to encourage him to let go of his feelings. He would only be able to reclaim his life once he released his obsession with Serenity. That was why anyone but Jasmine would take Shawn’s side.
“Uh… I was mistaken about Ms. Sox. So, she’s not well.” Zachary needed to inform Josh later so Josh would have a reason to reach out to Jasmine. “Yeah, she has a high fever. It might be due to the sudden change in weather. She chose fashion over comfort and ended up catching a cold.” Serenity had always seen her best friend wearing dresses in winter. Even though the dresses were made of warmer fabrics, Serenity believed that traditional winter clothing was more suitable for the season. She often teased her best friend for prioritizing style over comfort. The girls had different tastes in winter attire; Serenity wished she could wear a duvet outside when it was cold.
“Give me your phone, Zachary.”
“What’s the matter?” Zachary asked as Serenity extended her hand, demanding his phone.
“I want to check if I’m still on your contact list. Did you delete my number? Given your history, I need to look at your phone. If you erase my contact again, don’t bother re-adding it.”
She had quite the temper.
Zachary handed his phone to her without hesitation. After unlocking it, he tapped on the message icon for her convenience. “It’s easy to delete a number, but adding it back is a challenge. I learned that the hard way, and I won’t make the same mistake again.”
When Serenity had added her number back last time, she warned him that they would be done if they ever deleted each other’s numbers again.
Seeing her number still on his contact list eased Serenity’s mind.
However, she was frustrated that he hadn’t responded to any of her texts, despite her repeatedly messaging him.
Shoving his phone back into his hand, she opened the door and said, “Alright, I’ve cleared the air, so you should head back to work. I need to return to the shop; Elisa brought her mother there, and I asked her to keep an eye on it for me.” Zachary stared at her and asked, “Are you angry, Seren?”
