Jasmine did not wear makeup or dress up for the date; she looked just like she always did. Normally, she had on light makeup, but at that moment, her face was bare.
“Ms. Sox, I apologize for keeping you waiting,” Josh said as he arrived.
Jasmine smiled and replied, “I didn’t wait long, Mr. Bucham. Please, take a seat.”
Josh sat down across from Jasmine and offered her a rose, but she did not accept it.
“Mr. Bucham, this flower came from your mouth…”
She didn’t need to elaborate.
Josh understood the implication and responded, “Next time, I’ll buy you a bouquet and present it properly. I won’t bite it again.”
“Is your mouth so large that you can bite a bouquet of flowers?”
Josh replied, “No…”
He tossed the bitten rose into the trash can beneath the table.
Noticing that Jasmine had already ordered her coffee, Josh signaled to the waitress and requested a cup for himself.
When the waitress brought him his coffee, she lingered for a moment. Josh smiled and informed her, “I’m on a blind date.”
The waitress blushed, wanting to say something but hesitating as she recalled her boss’s instructions. She shyly replied, “I didn’t mean anything by it.”
She was merely trying to confirm if this man was indeed Josh Bucham.
The waitress quickly walked away.
Josh touched his face and said, “It’s quite a burden that my parents gave me such good looks.” Jasmine laughed and remarked, “You are indeed very handsome—probably one of the most attractive men I’ve ever seen.”
“Who else is better looking than me?” he asked.
“Your colleague, Zachary,” she answered.
Josh suddenly responded bitterly, “Please don’t compare me to him; it just lowers my self-esteem.”
“Ms. Sox, you don’t have feelings for him, do you?”
Jasmine nearly choked on her coffee and coughed a few times.
“Hurriedly, she said, ‘Mr. Bucham, I don’t have any feelings for your colleague. He’s my best friend’s husband, so he’s off-limits. Besides, your colleague’s stony face isn’t my type.’ She lacked the patience of Serenity to get along with Zachary. Furthermore, even Serenity admitted that Zachary could be too cold at times.
‘Ms. Sox, I mainly asked because my colleague looks like a Greek god; many girls swoon over him. If he weren’t so cold, he would have countless admirers clinging to him like bubblegum,’ he replied.
Jasmine didn’t inquire much about Zachary, as it was normal for an attractive man like him to attract attention from women. She sensed that Zachary was beginning to warm up to Serenity and treating her better, so she wasn’t worried about another woman taking him away from her friend.
‘Mr. Bucham, have you ever been in a relationship?’ she asked.
‘No, I’m as pure as a blank sheet of paper,’ he answered.
Josh spoke the truth; he had never been in a formal relationship and had only experienced a crush on a girl in his class when he was younger. That was over a decade ago, so it hardly seemed worth mentioning. He didn’t even remember what the girl looked like now.
‘I heard from your colleague that you’re very busy at work?’ she inquired.
‘Yeah, I’ve been so busy with work that I don’t have time to meet young women like you, Ms. Sox. But I still have many admirers,’ he replied.”
