Chapter 405
“That’s because she’s overweight. I told her to run five laps in the small park in front of the office every day before starting work. She isn’t allowed to begin her shift unless she completes all five laps. I’m pushing her to lose weight, but the results won’t be visible after just one month. That’s why I set her probation period to three months.”
Zachary was once again left speechless.
Duncan was a bit too inquisitive.
He had given Liberty a job and was even concerned about her weight.
Duncan truly was the best boss in the world.
“Duncan, make it a month’s probation. Once she passes, give her a salary increase. If you believe she doesn’t deserve the raise, I’ll cover the difference every month and give it to you privately.”
“She’s just a clerk in the finance department, so any raise will be minimal. At most, it’ll be a thousand dollars, which isn’t significant.”
“A thousand dollars may mean little to you, but it’s a lot for an average person. My sister-in-law is facing divorce and is fighting for custody of her son. A stable job and income will help her in that battle.”
“She was previously a finance manager at Waltham Electronics, so she’s more than capable. Being a clerk now is a demotion for her. It won’t be sudden to give her a raise after probation. I’m not concerned about that amount, so there’s no need for you to reimburse me.”
Unlike Josh, Duncan wasn’t one to gossip. He noted Zachary referring to Liberty as his sister-in-law, but it didn’t surprise him at all.
Liberty was Serenity’s sister, and Serenity was Zachary’s wife. Thus, Zachary calling Liberty his sister-in-law was completely normal.
“Thanks, Duncan.”
“You don’t need to thank me. Liberty is now my employee, so it’s only fair that I pay her salary. Is she getting a divorce?”
“Her husband cheated on her.”
Duncan replied, unsurprisingly, “I met her twice before while she was walking on the street with her son. The second time I saw her, she bought a lot of things, but her husband didn’t come to pick her up. At that moment, I knew something was wrong with him.”
If they were in a good relationship, her husband would have gone to pick up his wife and son when he found out she had bought so much.
“Zachary, don’t worry. As long as she doesn’t resign, I won’t fire her.”
“I’m relieved she works for you. I need to join a meeting now. I’ll treat you to dinner someday. You can come to my house and try my wife’s cooking. Her home-cooked meals are delicious.”
“So you’re finally letting us meet her, huh?” Duncan teased Zachary.
He had seen Serenity once before, but only from behind.
Duncan was curious if Serenity was as beautiful as a goddess since Zachary had fallen for her in just two months.
Zachary smiled but didn’t elaborate further. He ended the call with Duncan.
At the Brown family residence.
“You want to divorce Liberty?”
Mr. Brown stared at his son, who had come over after taking the day off. “Didn’t you say you’d put up with her for Sonny’s sake?”
Hank lowered his head, fixated on his smoking.
Olivia entered with Lucas. She sat next to her husband and said, “Why are you yelling? Don’t scare Lucas.”
She softened her voice and asked her son, “Hank, why did you suddenly mention divorce? Did you two fight again? Or did Liberty make a fuss about what happened yesterday?”
