Chapter 1013
In response to her husband’s request, Mrs. Newman reluctantly assembled a gift.
Afterward, she saw Mr. Newman out the door.
Once he left, Mrs. Newman muttered to herself, “She’s just a country bumpkin. I doubt Mr. York will love her forever. For now, she’s merely a breath of fresh air for him. The country bumpkin won’t be the lady of the house for long once he gets bored.”
Half an hour later, Zachary received a call via the intercom. Mr. Chaplin informed him that Mr. Newman wished to meet.
Unsurprisingly, Zachary understood the reason for Mr. Newman’s visit.
Mr. Newman arrived before Zachary had a chance to confront him.
“Let him in,” Zachary replied coldly to Mr. Chaplin.
Mr. Chaplin hung up and conveyed the message.
In the VIP lounge on the first floor, Mr. Newman sat quietly, though restlessly, waiting for his turn. He composed himself as he heard footsteps, attempting to appear calm as the receptionist approached.
“Mr. Newman, our CEO will see you upstairs.”
Mr. Newman stood up, thanked the receptionist, and followed her, carrying the gift.
The absence of Mr. Newman’s bodyguards was intended to signal to Zachary that he came in peace.
In the CEO’s office, Zachary ended the call with Mr. Chaplin and used the intercom to reach Callum. “Come to my office, Callum,” he instructed.
Believing it was work-related, Callum set aside his tasks and headed to the top floor, arriving ahead of Mr. Newman to the CEO’s office.
“Zack.”
Callum closed the door behind him and asked, “What’s going on?”
“Sit,” Zachary said, gesturing for his cousin to take a seat.
Callum sat down, waiting for Zachary to speak. However, his cousin remained silent for some time.
“What’s going on, Zack? I can’t read your mind, and it’s making me anxious,” Callum said, recalling his recent job performance, which he believed had gone smoothly. This thought provided him with a bit of reassurance.
“Not much. Just sit tight,” Zack replied, leaving Callum momentarily speechless.
Knock, knock.
“Come in,” Zack called out.
As the door swung open, Mr. Chaplin entered the office and politely announced, “Mr. Newman is here, sir.” He then stepped aside and gestured for Mr. Newman to enter. Mr. Newman acknowledged Mr. Chaplin with a nod before walking into Zackary’s office, carrying a gift.
Mr. Newman entered with a broad smile.
“Mr. Zachary, Mr. Callum,” he greeted the cousins warmly.
Mr. Chaplin accepted the gift from Mr. Newman and placed it on the coffee table before pouring him a drink.
Noticing that his cousin remained seated, Callum stood up and courteously led Mr. Newman to the sofa in the guest area.
Zackary only got up and walked around his desk after Mr. Chaplin had poured the drink and left the office. He approached Mr. Newman and took a seat opposite him, locking eyes.
“What do you want, Mr. Newman?” he asked, his voice low and abrupt.
