the drug intended for Camryn, but due to Elisa and Serenity’s interference, Carrie ended up consuming it instead. She felt anxious to leave before the effects of the drug set in.
“What’s wrong, Carrie?” Mrs. Newman asked with concern.
Upon noticing Camryn standing nearby, she glared at her and demanded sternly, “What did you do to your sister, Camryn?”
“I didn’t do anything to her,” Camryn replied, her expression growing cold in response to her mother’s accusation. It was clear that their relationship was strained.
“Mom, it’s so hot. I want to take off my clothes…” Carrie said. Although still sober, she felt increasingly warm as the drug began to take effect, tugging at the evening gown she wore.
Mrs. Newman quickly realized what was happening. She rushed to embrace Carrie and attempted to strike Camryn.
However, Serenity pulled Camryn away just in time, preventing Mrs. Newman from hitting her.
“Mrs. York, this is a family matter. Please don’t interfere,” Serenity said innocently.
“I already did,” she added, feeling helpless to do anything else but continue meddling.
“Mrs. Newman, isn’t she your daughter too? Aren’t you even going to ask what happened? I witnessed everything. Your younger daughter drugged a glass of wine and tried to force her older sister to drink it.”
“She reaps what she sows!” Mrs. Newman snapped. “Even so, that’s between the sisters. I advise you to stay out of it! Who do you think you are? You’re just a country bumpkin. Do you think you’re really some sort of lady just because that’s what others call you?”
Serenity maintained a vague smile. “So what if I’m a country bumpkin? That has nothing to do with you.”
I don’t mind if others call me “missus,” but as long as my husband is Mr. York, I will proudly be Mrs. York!
“I may not want to interfere in other people’s lives, but I will definitely meddle in Camryn’s. Mrs. Newman, I don’t care who you think you are. I dare you to lay a finger on Camryn after you leave tonight!”
Serenity’s eyes were icy as she glared at Mrs. Newman.
“You-!”
Mrs. Newman was so furious that her face turned bright red.
