BUHLE: THE MOUNT QUEEN.

BUHLEBENDALO MGABADELI.

-The brightness of the sun light through the window and into my eyes, I opened my eyes and streched my arms getting of bed. I walked to the other room to take a bath after bathing I wore my tradional attires I’m the queen after all so it’s a must, I walked out of my room and into my brother’s room as I heard noise coming there and I was concerned about what was happening.

“What is going on? So much noise in the morning” I said entering the room and saw both my brother — Lufefe and my late father’s right handman who is my right handman now, both of their eyes shifted to me at the exit.

“Nothing magabadeli, we were just chatting about man stuff” lufefe explained stretching the back of his head and giving me an awkward smile which told me that there is something wrong.

“Are you hiding something from me? Because I can tell that you are” I uttered walking towards them.

“We can’t hide this from her, she is the queen and she must come with a solution” unathi exclaimed looking at my brother.

“She is still a child unathi, how is she suppose to come up with a solution for such a problem” my brother opposed.

“I’m the queen lufefe and I deserve to know what is happening in my village, and I’m not a child anymore I’m literally 23 so please tell me what’s going on so I can help” I said trying to convince my brother but he was stubborn.

“Ndlovukazi forty-five people died in the village last month and two died last week” unathi said.

“What? Why wasn’t i informed about this crisis?” I asked with anger and concern.

“Your brother here requested that we do not tell you until we find something helpful” he uttered looking at lufefe.

“Look sisi i didn’t…” i didn’t let him finish his sentence.

“Why are you shutting me out lufefe? I should be handling this because I’m the queen here and i should be informed about everything but now you are blocking me from helping my people lufefe” I said with disappointment.

“I’m sorry but I didn’t want to stress you out” he said trying to touch me but I yanked and ignored him like he wasn’t there, then I looked at unathi.

“What is killing my people unathi?” I asked concerned.

“The villagers say it’s some kind of fever but a stronger one, the symptoms of it are not common symptoms of fever” he said.

“Okay uhm name any symptoms you heard of” I uttered sitting down.

“They say it’s diarrhea and many other symptoms” unathi explained.

“That is not a fever, we need to find a doctor ASAP to come and check up on this matter” I said.

“A doctor? I hope you are not talking about a tradional doctor ndalo” lufefe uttered.

“Who else do you think I’m going to call, we don’t need a modern doctor” I said.

“No ndalo a traditional doctor can’t help us look for this disease because they work with bones and they can’t inspect someone in the inside, that’s why I called a modern doctor from the city and he will be arriving tomorrow afternoon” lufefe explained, I got up from the chair in shock.

“You did what? You know you aren’t allowed to make decisions without consulting with me first” I uttered angrly.

“I’m sorry my queen but you are still a child and you won’t understand a thing about this, let me handling this” he said checking his phone.

“You know what you can bring your city doctor and I’ll bring my tradional doctor because that is how my parents did it” I said and pulled my sishweshwe leaving the room.

-How can he go behind me and hire a city doctor, I’m the queen. I hate being told that I’m a child when I’m in my 20s, what if the gods are angry again because what else could be killing my people. The tradional doctor needs to come her fast to investigate on this matter, I can’t fail my people. Who knows this city doctor might be a scammer who wants money and give us false information.

NIKITHEMBA SONTUTHU.

-I got to my office and took off my coat then sat down to look at some paper work, I took my laptop and started tying the information I have on this one patient who seems to be more sicker than the others. I hate this job truly speaking and I’m only doing it because I’m good at it and it brings me money, I mean alot of money. After I was done I stood up and went to stand at the window screen taking out my cigarette and lit it up then started puffing while enjoying the view, someone barged in without knocking leading me to throwing cigarette quickly because a doctor shouldn’t smoke but I do.

“Jesus susan, you shouldn’t barge into my office like that” I said picking up the cigarette and throwing it in the bin, susan is a nurse and we are close so she knows that I smoke and my secret is safe with her.

“Sorry didn’t mean to scare you but I have some news to tell you” she said offering herself a sit.

“Please tell me one of those annoying patients is dead, or all of them” I said.

“No actually even better” she said smiling.

“Did they increase our salaries?” I said also smiling.

“What? No, I you have been booked” she said excitedly, while I was still confused.

“Booked? Booked how? What do you mean” I said my mind all puzzled up.

“Well this morning I recieved a call from a prince in a village in free state wanting you to go there and check up on the people who are sick and others dying” she explained.

“Rural areas? Ow tell me you declined that offer susan, I can’t survive in the hospital how do you think I will survive in the rurals with those dirty people coughing all day” I said.

“Actually I accepted and we leaving tomorrow, i already booked a flight” she said streching her head.

“You did what? Tell me you booked business class” I shouted.

“Of course i did, Listen they are willing to pay a large some of money” she said and that’s when my mind and heart started to connect and make things right between each other.

” Thank god, How much are we talking about?” I said crossing my legs.

“45k in cash” she said and my eyes quickly lit up.

“That is alot, it’s a deal and we are going together” I said.

“Of course, ow and also they asked if we can stay the whole month and I said yes” she said getting up of her sit.

“Whole month? What! SUSAN!” by the time I was screaming she was already gone and I was defeated.

-Now I have to stay in a village for a whole month with villagers, yuck. But for money I can do this let’s just wish they will pay me my money back because I’m doing this for the zaka not the people, I careless about humans.
