“What do you mean I have to go back home A?”, I can’t even think how is my mother. That woman is a whole monster, I heard that they married Kago to the Ndwandwes truly speaking I don’t feel sorry for her. She had always been better than me, had everything including A.
I loved A, had a crush on her but Kago decided to date with her. Okay it not like she knew I had a crush on A, but what I’m trying to say here is that, people always choose her over me. “You have to go back, Kago is already married to the Ndwandwe guy”. Well she went there to see it happening, she came back a little bit emotional.
I mean who wouldn’t be emotional after seeing your girlfriend marrying some else other than you. “Are you kicking me out Aurora?”, she looked at me with her dark eyes. “What I know that if Kago finds out about this, hell will break loose”. I scoffed, “you still worried about someone who chose another person other than you? You must be joking”.
“If you didn’t ran away from your home…..Kago wouldn’t have married that guy”, I looked at her shocked, what have I thought. “Ohhhh serious? I guess she wouldn’t have been happy to know you were shagging her sister”. “Correction, step sister who always was jealous of her, always wishing bad things to happen to her…..listen to me Lumi, you not Kago and you will never be, not to mention to replace her”.
I stood there, frozen in shock, as Aurora’s words hung in the air like a challenge. The dim light of the setting sun cast a golden glow over the room, but it did little to warm the chill that had settled in my bones. I felt like I’d been punched in the gut, my breath knocked out of me. How could she say that? How could she twist it all around like I was the one who’d done something wrong?
I took a step back, my eyes scanning the room as if searching for an escape route. But there was none. I was trapped, caught in the web of my own making. The walls seemed to close in on me, the shadows deepening into ominous silences. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, the beat echoing in my ears like a war drum.
“You know nothing,” I spat, my voice low and venomous. “You think you can just wail on me like I’m some punching bag? Newsflash, Aurora, you’re not the only one hurting here. Kago might’ve chosen you, but she’s not here, is she? She’s off living her best life with that Ndwandwe guy, while I’m stuck here dealing with your mess.”
Aurora raised an eyebrow, her expression a mask of indifference. But I saw the flicker of pain in her eyes, the tiny crack in her armor. Ah, gotcha. I smirked, feeling a twisted sense of satisfaction. “You’re just mad because you know I’m right. You and Kago, you were always the perfect couple, weren’t you? The golden girls, untouchable and flawless. And what am I? Just the shadow, the one who lurks in the background, waiting for scraps.”
The air was thick with tension, the silence between us stretching out like a tightrope. I could feel it vibrating, humming with the weight of unspoken words. Aurora’s eyes flashed with anger, her jaw clenched in a tight line. For a moment, I thought she’d lash out, unleash the fury I knew she was hiding. But she didn’t. Instead, she turned on her heel, her long strides eating up the distance between us as she disappeared into the shadows.
I let out a slow breath, my eyes following her until she vanished from sight. The room felt empty, the silence deafening. I slumped against the wall, my legs giving out beneath me as I slid to the floor. The darkness closed in, swallowing me whole.

I can’t believe what I saw, I didn’t even reply her messages. I’m now in my room, I looked at my and Aurora’s photos and videos. Memories lingers but pain….pain remains. How could she do something like this to me, I go to the contact, I dialled her number. She answered almost immediately, she didn’t say anything after answering but I can hear her breathing.
“Hey”
📱Hi”, we became silence again after greeting each other. I’m trying so hard to take out that picture in my mind but I can’t.
📱How are you holding up?”,her voice so sweet and soft, one of the things I loved about her.
“I’m trying….uhhm can we meet, maybe we need some closure”, there was silence again as I’m listening to her breathing. I remember I once couldn’t sleep without hearing her breathing, we would always sleep on a call.
📱Sure , tell me when you free”
“Tomorrow, ill send you every detail” she sighed once more.
📱I’ll be waiting, goodnight”.
She didn’t even wait for me to respond, the call was already disconnected. I sighed laying on my back, looking at the ceiling. I stood up then walked to the window. Maybe God saw who was right for me, maybe Aurora wasn’t the one. A knock disturbed me, I walked to open the door. I smiled looking at his grin, “hey, can I join you? Just for tonight?” I shook my head chuckling then I opened the door fully for him to enter.
“What you doing here Nhlanzeko, you know MaShandu won’t allow this”, he gave me his million dollar smile, “angenzi icala njeh mama mina,I decided to sleep with my wife”. I chuckled, he walked to sit at the edge of the bed, “I saw you weren’t yourself at the river, so I thought I should keep you accompany just for tonight”. I sighed then nodded, I went to sit next him, I think I like him, I like how he respects me, how he talk, his smile, his touch.
“Okay, thank you”, he stood up then opened the blankets for us. He came to stand in front of me, “iza mama sizolala”. I stood up, he held my hand then helped me to get on the bed, then he followed also.
