Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 576
Chapter 576
She had decided to tell Haskell about her suspicions.
Arriving at Palmer Group, Larissa went straight to Haskell’s office, only to find a middle–aged woman there. The woman was tied up and lying on the floor. She looked to be in her forties, with messy, wavy hair, a leopard–print jacket, a black winter skirt, and over–the–knee black boots.
Larissa walked over to the sofa and sat down, her eyes fixed on the woman. “Haskell, who is she?”
Haskell wheeled himself closer to her, his voice calm and cold. “Trudy.”
Larissa was stunned. “That’s Trudy?!”
Seeing her surprise, Haskell asked, “Larissa, you know her?”
The fact that Trudy was tied up here meant Haskell had already investigated her. It confirmed the connection between Trudy and the trafficker.
Composing herself, Larissa explained, “Yes. I had a source who told me Lucius was in contact with someone named Trudy. The name sounded familiar, and it reminded me of what Thatch said about the trafficker, Gertrude.”
“You know my mother?!” Trudy exclaimed upon hearing the name “Gertrude,” her voice rising
in shock.
Haskell looked at her, his expression impassive. “Not only do we know her, but we have a score to settle. That’s why you’re here today.”
“A score to settle?” Trudy stared at him. “You’re the great Haskell Palmer. What kind of feud could my mother possibly have with you?”
Haskell sneered, his voice low and menacing. “Twenty–two years ago, did your mother buy a one–month–old baby boy?”
At the mention of “twenty–two years ago,” Trudy’s body jolted. Her face went pale, her eyes darting around. He had hit a nerve.
“What does that have to do with you?” she said, trying to sound calm, but her voice trembled.
Haskell’s gaze was icy. “The baby boy your mother bought was my younger brother.”
Now that he had her, Haskell had no intention of letting her go. He didn’t mind her knowing that he was searching for his brother.
His words struck Trudy like a hammer blow. Her eyes widened in disbelief, her lips trembling.
“Your brother?!”

After her initial shock, she asked incredulously, “But didn’t you personally send your brother to prison…”
Her voice trailed off as a horrifying realization dawned on her.
Twenty–two years ago, a man, his face hidden, had claimed to be selling his own son to her mother. Could that man have been Haskell’s father, Thatch? Thatch had hidden his identity because he was afraid–afraid of being caught selling his own child.
Seeing the understanding dawn on Trudy’s face, Haskell said coldly, “So you should understand why you’re here.”
Fear finally set in.
“Mr. Palmer, it’s no use bringing me here! I don’t know where your brother is!”
She couldn’t believe it. The little bastard who had caused her mother’s death was Haskell Palmer’s brother. No wonder her mother had died so horribly. She had crossed the wrong
people.
Now that she was in Haskell’s hands, would she suffer the same fate?
