Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 549
“…Yes, Grandpa,” Leopold said, picking up his cutlery and eating in silence.
Finley, too, retracted his hopeful gaze.
Throughout the meal, Paxton’s family ate distractedly, their eyes constantly on Kiernan, waiting for him to finish.
Finally, when Kiernan set down his fork, Leopold immediately put down his own cutlery. “Grandpa…” he began eagerly.
Finley looked up again, his fingers tightening around his knife and fork. This was his last chance. If the poison wasn’t cured, he might actually resort to killing himself right here in front of his grandfather to force the issue.
Kiernan wiped his mouth with a napkin. “Alright, Leopold, I know what you want to ask. And I’ll tell you. Larissa has agreed.”
Leopold stared, stunned for a moment, before his eyes lit up. He turned to Larissa, who was sitting next to Neville and Sapphira, his expression filled with fervent hope.
Larissa ignored his intense gaze.
Finley was so overjoyed he pushed his chair back and shot to his feet, his voice trembling uncontrollably. “Is it true? Larissa, are you really willing to cure me?”
Larissa glanced at him, her tone devoid of emotion. “I don’t care if you die, but I’m not going to let Grandpa’s health fail because of you.”
Whatever the reason, all that mattered to Finley was that he would be cured.
“Thank you,
saved!”
Larissa!” he exclaimed, his whole body shaking with excitement. “I’m saved! I’m finally
Vivica, thrilled by the news, couldn’t help but ask, “So you admit you were the one who poisoned Finley?”
Her words made both Finley and Leopold’s hearts sink.
“Mom!” Finley cried out in alarm.
Larissa’s lips curved into a wry smile. “Vivica, why don’t you ask your precious son exactly why I poisoned him in the first place?”
“Mom, stop talking!” Finley said immediately. “It was my fault! I deserved it! The fact that Larissa didn’t kill me outright is a testament to her kindness!”
Not wanting to jeopardize the cure, and knowing they needed to stay on Larissa’s good side, Vivica quickly changed her tune. “Larissa, I wasn’t blaming you. Whatever misunderstandings you and Finley had, it’s all in the past. Thank you for being willing to help him. If there’s anything you want, just name it. We’ll do our best to get it for you!”
“You once offered me money, and I turned it down,” Larissa said mockingly. “What could you possibly give me now with the few pennies you have left? The only thing I want from you is your silence. And

for your entire family to stay out of my sight.”
Vivica was left speechless.
The excitement in Leopold’s eyes dimmed at Larissa’s harsh words. He said with a bitter smile, “Larissa, I know you don’t need anything from us… but if you ever run into trouble, just say the word. I’ll go through hell and high water for you.”
Finley added weakly, “Me too, Larissa. From now on, if you ask for anything, I’ll do whatever I can to help.”
Both brothers had humbled themselves completely. Only Paxton remained silent, his expression unreadable. In his eyes, this was nothing short of a humiliation. But for now, he had no choice but to watch his sons endure it.
Larissa glanced at him and said pointedly, “But from the look on your father’s face, he doesn’t seem too keen on me helping.”
Finley flinched and turned to his father.
Paxton’s hands, hidden beneath the table, clenched into fists. He forced a smile. “Of course not, Larissa. I’m truly happy that you’re willing to cure Finley.”
“What a liar,‘ Larissa thought. She didn’t press the matter, simply stating in a cold, detached tone, “You can come with me to my villa later to get the medicine.”
