Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 539
Hearing his own sister call him trash felt like a knife in Leopold’s heart. But he couldn’t deny it. To her, that’s what he had become.
“Let’s go, Leopold,” Magnus said, already heading for the door. “One day, your sister will deeply regret letting you go.”
Leopold stood up and took one last look at Larissa’s impassive face. It was clear she had nothing more to say to him. He turned and left without
another word.
As they were leaving the Starlight Media building, they passed a man in a stylish blue casual suit.
Leopold frowned. As the man headed up the stairs, he turned to Magnus. “That was Wynn.”
Magnus stopped. “Wynn?”
Leopold nodded. “Yeah.”
“What’s he doing here?”
As a long–time industry insider, Magnus knew every major player. Wynn was a name he hadn’t heard in years. The man had won a top award for his debut film, only to have his career implode after a scandal involving his assistant. He had completely fallen off the map.
“Don’t tell me he’s the male lead for ‘Heaven’s Will‘,” Magnus mused, then broke into a laugh. “Leopold, if your sister is actually casting Wynn, she’s digging her own grave.”
Leopold said nothing. He had the same sinking feeling.
“Looks like making ‘Heaven’s Will‘ a ratings disaster will be easier than I thought,” Magnus said, getting into his car. “Are you coming to the office today to officially start?”
“No,” Leopold replied. “I’m going to spend the next few days writing new

music. I’ll officially start on the first of next month.”
“Good,” Magnus approved. “Write some hits. Your debut with Gale needs to be spectacular. I want at least one of your songs in the top ten of the year–end charts.”
“I understand,” Leopold said.
His first song two years ago had shot to number one, making him an overnight sensation. While his subsequent songs hadn’t reached the same height, they had still been popular.
But that wasn’t enough. He was going to reach a level no other artist in the industry could touch. Only then would his sister finally see him, forgive him, and accept him back into her life.
“Knock, knock.”
Ursa’s voice came from the other side of the door. “Ms. Judson, Wynn is here.”
“Send him in,” Larissa called out, moving from her desk to the seating
area.
“What would you like to drink?” she asked as Wynn entered.
He took off his hat and mask, sitting down opposite her. “Just water is fine, thank you.”
Larissa studied him. Gustave had a sharp eye. Wynn was the living embodiment of the male lead from her novel. He had the weary look of someone who had been through hell and back, but there was still a spark of hope in his eyes.
“You know why I asked you here,” she began, getting straight to the point. “The scandal that destroyed your career three years ago–is there more to the story? If there is, tell me now. I can help you.”

Wynn met her gaze directly. “I’ve heard your name many times. I’ve seen you trending online.”
