The Throne of Thorns Novel Chapter 381

Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 381

Chapter 381

What exactly had he dreamt about her? How was he supposed to describe it?

Ever since his legs had been crippled, Haskell’s sleep had been fitful at best. But the night after he met Larissa, he’d slept more peacefully than he had in years.

Maybe

it was because she had told him, with such conviction, that she could heal his legs. Or maybe it was because she had agreed to return to Regal City and marry him.

Haskell was certain it was the latter. Because…

“That night,” Haskell said, his voice steady and honest, “I dreamed we got married.”

It was as simple as that. His subconscious had already decided.

Larissa raised an eyebrow. After inserting one fine needle into his leg, she prepared a second. “Seriously? A dream that tame?”

A small smile played on Haskell’s lips. “What’s so tame about marrying you? Did you forget what happens on the wedding night?”

Larissa snorted with laughter. “Oh, right! Well, you’re quite the rogue, having a dream like that after we’d only just met.”

“I suppose I can’t help but be a rogue when I’m around you,” he admitted easily.

Larissa’s fingers twisted another needle into place. “That’s fine by me. I like you best when you’re not so proper.”

After the playful banter, her tone shifted. “I’ve settled things with the Judson family today. What about you? Have you tied up Faith yet?”

“I’ll do it as soon as I get back, Haskell replied. “Now that you’ve handled your end, I can’t fall behind. You saw them earlier–if I don’t act decisively, your grandmother and the others won’t feel comfortable entrusting you to me.”

Larissa chuckled, her hands never ceasing their precise work. “Alright, then. After taking Bryant home, I’ll return to enjoy the show heré.”

Two hours later, the treatment was finished.

“Stay and have lunch at my place before you head back,” Larissa said, carefully removing the last needle from his leg.

Haskell was about to agree when his phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID: Thatch.

Larissa gave him space, tidying her medical kit. She turned to the three small snakes coiled on the bed. “When you hear my whistle later, come downstairs. There’s someone I want you to meet.”

Sage was the first to stir, tilting its head in curiosity, while Shadow and Snowy exchanged glances.

Haskell answered the call. “What is it?”

Chapter 381

“Valeria is being discharged from the hospital today. You never took back the apartment your brother Draven arranged for her, did you?”

“No.”

“Don’t take this too far. No matter what, Valeria is my daughter, which makes her your half–sister. She has nowhere to live. You need to arrange something for her immediately.”

“She can stay in a hotel. Or she could fight a beggar for a spot under an overpass.”

“Haskell, you-”

Haskell hung up before Thatch could finish.

Larissa, having packed away her kit, asked, “Was that your idiot father?”

“Yes. He wants me to find a place for Valeria to live. She’s being discharged today after the… unpleasantness I arranged for her.”

The idea was so absurd it was almost funnier than Finley’s pathetic claims of regret.

“After everything that’s happened, how does he still have the nerve to ask you for anything? Seriously, Haskell, maybe when you go back today you should just beat some sense into him. Check him into a hospital and get his head examined.”

Haskell put his phone away and chuckled softly. “I’ll consider it.”

“Don’t consider it, just do it,” Larissa insisted. “He doesn’t treat you like a son, so why should you treat him like a father?”

“If I beat him without a good reason, my grandfather will question it. I need a proper excuse.” “You’re too constrained by rules,” Larissa scoffed. “An excuse is easy. The moment you see him, just knock him flat. If Grandpa Zoltan asks why, tell him a psychic predicted that if he entered the house left–foot–first, it would tank the Palmer family’s fortune for the next year.”

Haskell blinked, then a slow, amused smile spread across his face. “Alright. I’ll do as you say.”

He couldn’t believe he hadn’t thought of such a wonderfully absurd reason himself.
