“Don’t get too cocky, Larissa. The share transfer isn’t finalized yet. Grandpa could change his mind in the next couple of days. Once I’m cured and you can no longer threaten me, I will take back everything that rightfully belongs to me and leave you with nothing again!”
With that, Finley stormed off, heading backstage to find Mr. Lawson.
Behind her sunglasses, Honora shot Larissa a venomous glare before pulling at her mask and hurrying after Finley.
Larissa just snorted. She was already imagining the punishment she would devise for Finley when he inevitably discovered that she was the poison expert and his cure was nowhere in sight.
Avril watched them go, a look of contempt on her face. “I honestly don’t get it. How Finley’s family be so stupid? Even when you were first brought back and they didn’t kn how amazing you were, you were still their real daughter, their real sister. Shouldn’t they have felt sorry for how you suffered and focused on nurturing you? Instead, they looked down on you for not being as ‘excellent‘ as Honora.”
“But now it’s obvious you’re far superior to her. If you were really as they thought, who knows how they would have mistreated you after you returned. The thought is terrifying.”
Listening to Avril’s rambling, Larissa smiled. “There are no what–ifs. The me of today is here to make them pay for what they would have done to the me of yesterday.”
Avril’s eyes sparkled. “Oh my god, Larissa, that was the coolest thing I’ve ever heard.”
Larissa chuckled. “With the way you shower people with praise, whoever dates you will have their emotional needs met a hundred times over.”
“No dating for me!” Avril declared. “If I can’t find a man as amazing as Haskell, I’m not interested!”
“You seem to really admire Haskell,” Larissa noted. “But from what I heard, your mothe remained neutral in the family power struggle.”
That was a topic Avril was eager to discuss. “Even though my mother stayed neutral I’ve always admired and supported Haskell.”
Larissa raised an eyebrow. “Why? Because you’re drawn to power?”
“That’s part of it,” Avril admitted. “But more importantly, Haskell is different from our other cousins. The rest of them only see personal gain. They’d sell out their own siblings if it benefited them. Look at Garrick Palmer last night–when he got in trouble with you and Haskell, Fraser Palmer’s only concern was that Garrick didn’t upset Grandpa. He didn’t care about Garrick at all.”

“But Haskell isn’t like that. He’s incredibly loyal to the people he cares about. Take Valeria Palmer, for example. You know about her, right? The adopted girl. Haskell let her stay in the family out of respect for Draven Palmer. Before his accident, I was so envious of her. She was just an adopted daughter with no blood ties, but Haskell treated her like a real sister, protecting and spoiling her.”

“I figured he’d be busy dealing with the aftermath of the Draven situation, so I didn’t call him Larissa explained.
Avril nodded in understanding. “I see. I wonder what happened to that ungrateful snake Draven after he was taken away. If you ask me, he deserved to die. Haskell treated him so well, and he tried to kill him in return!”
