Chapter 279
Finley, who had been anxiously watching over Honora, whipped his head around to face Draven, his expression a mixture of shock and fury.
If he had known Draven was this unreliable, he never would have agreed to work with him.
“What is going on?” Paxton whispered harshly to his son, his eyes wide wi
If Finley was really behind this, their family would be torn to shreds by the this room.
“It wasn’t me, Dad,” Finley insisted, shaking his head.

Paxton let out a small sigh of relief. The seven other victims, while not as powerful as the Palmers, were still influential figures in Regal City. United, they could easily crush the Judson family.
A small smile played on Larissa’s lips. “Well, Haskell,” she murmured, “it looks like the dog–eat–dog show is about to begin.”
This was why they had allowed Draven and Finley’s plot to unfold. They had let them escalate the situation, knowing that the bigger the chaos, the harder their fall would be.
“It’s time to settle things with Draven tonight,” Haskell said thoughtfully.
Hearing Draven’s accusation, Zoltan erupted in a rage. “You insolent fool! Who do you think you are to meddle in your brother’s affairs?”
Though the words stung, Draven quickly feigned remorse. “I was wrong, Grandpa, Bro. I overstepped. I shouldn’t have doubted Larissa. I shouldn’t have questioned your choice.”
“Draven,” Zoltan said coldly, “don’t think a simple apology will get you out of this. I’ll deal with you later.”
He then turned his stern gaze to Finley. “Finley, you are responsible for the injuries and poisoning of so many people tonight. You had better give me a satisfactory expla will personally see to it that you are sent to prison.”

“Mr. Zoltan, it was Draven who approached…” Finley started to say that Draven had approached Honora, but he caught himself, not wanting to drag her any further into this mess. He quickly changed his story. “Draven came to me and suggested we work together to deal with Larissa. All I did was give him the information about her past. I had nothing to do with the snakes and scorpions. Tonight’s events were all Draven’s doing!”
Paxton quickly backed him up. “Mr. Zoltan, my adopted daughter was also a victim in this disaster. My son Finley adores his sister. Why would he orchestrate something that would cause her so much suffering?”

The guests murmured in agreement.
“That’s a fair point. Honora was also bitten. If Finley was the mastermind, surely he would have taken precautions to protect her.”
“It seems more likely that Draven is the culprit.”
“Finley, don’t try to deny it!” Draven retorted, his voice rising in desperati been ruined by Larissa! You despise her! You were so desperate for reve everything to orchestrate this chaos at her engagement party!”

“This is the Palmer estate!” Finley shot back. “I’m not brave enough to cause a scene here! It
you found was you, Draven! You want to replace your brother as the Palmer family heir! When out that Larissa might be able to heal Haskell’s legs, you panicked and came up with this scheme to get rid of her, ensuring that Haskell would never recover!”
“That’s a load of nonsense!” Draven roared, his face flushing at having his true motives exposed.
As they argued, the other Palmers watched with detached amusement.
Trevor shot a contemptuous look at Thatch and sneered, “Draven, that good–for–nothing? Even if his brother doesn’t become the heir, the position would never fall to him. Does he think we don’t exist?”
“Exactly,” Garrick added. “If it weren’t for his brother, he’d be nothing. And now he dares to betray him? He’s making a mockery of the entire Palmer family.”
