Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 237
Arriving at the hospital, Larissa found herself in a familiar situation. As she waited for the elevator, she ran into Honora again. But this time, Vivica and Josette were with her.
The three of them approached, their eyes fixed on Larissa, each with a different expression.
“Josette,” Vivica began, “you met Larissa this morning. What did you think of her?”
Josette glanced at Larissa, her voice dripping with disdain. “Hmph! Exactly as you said, Vivica. An arrogant, uncultured brat who doesn’t know her place.”
She punctuated the insult with a contemptuous snort.
Honora stood silently to the side, a faint, almost imperceptible smirk on her face.
Larissa slowly pulled a silver needle from her sleeve and toyed with it between her fingers. “My hands are getting a little itchy. I’m looking for a few animals to practice on.”
The memory of her last encounter with that needle made Vivica flinch and fall silent.
Josette started to speak, but Vivica tugged on her sleeve, whispering, “Josette, be careful. That girl is strange. One prick from that needle and you’ll be foaming at the mouth and convulsing on the floor.” Josette scoffed. “She wouldn’t dare touch me. My husband wouldn’t let her get away with it.”
“Aunt Josette,” Larissa said, turning to her, “your husband is second in line at the Lincoln family, not the heir. He doesn’t have that much power. You, on the other hand, are threatening me. It’s you who would have a hard time getting away with it.”
Josette’s face hardened. “You’re full of empty threats! Do you really think getting engaged to Haskell makes you untouchable? You’re working so hard to suck up to a cripple, but do you really believe he can still become the Palmer family heir?”
“Aunt Josette, watch your language. It’s not sucking up. Just because you had to claw your way into a marriage with Jagger, don’t assume everyone else is the same. Have you ever heard of mutual affection?” Larissa shot back.
“Shut up! My husband pursued me!” Josette snapped.
“Right, right, Jagger pursued you. You didn’t use any underhanded tactics at all,” Larissa said dismissively.
The condescending tone infuriated Josette.
“And yes, Haskell will be the Palmer heir. You don’t need to worry about that,” Larissa continued. “You should be more concerned about whether your husband can get that meeting with Zendar tomorrow. Otherwise, you’ll have to kneel and apologize to me. A woman of your age, kneeling to someone my age… that would be quite embarrassing.”
Josette was trembling with rage. “Just you wait! You’ll be the one kneeling!”
The elevator doors opened, and Josette stormed inside. Larissa followed nonchalantly and turned to Vivica. “Aunt Vivica, have the doctors said if there’s any chance of Leopold waking up?”

The fact that she dared to bring up her son’s condition made Vivica’s blood boil. “That’s none of your
business!”
Larissa glanced at the silent Honora and smiled. “I was just thinking, maybe I should be a good person for once and take a look at him. With my skills, I might even be able to wake him up.”
At those words, Honora’s face tightened for a fraction of a second. But she quickly composed herself. Even if Leopold wakes up, so what? The man he sent to investigate her has already been
dealt with. And besides, she’s been giving him the injections. He’s not going to wake up.
