“I will,” Larissa nodded.
Back in her room, after washing her hands, Larissa called Finley.
“What is it?” he answered, his tone laced with impatience.
Larissa raised an eyebrow. “Well, well, Finley. Is that any way to talk to me? Did you have a few drinks for courage tonight?”
“If you have something to say, say it. Otherwise, I’m hanging up,” he retorted, making no effort to change his tone.
Larissa’s eyebrow arched higher. She decided to ignore his attitude for a moment. “Fire your family’s steward.”
“Why?” Finley demanded.
Oh, he was questioning her now. Finley was certainly feeling rebellious tonight.
“The man offended me. I don’t like him, and I don’t want him in this house.”
“Larissa, your reach is getting a little long!” Finley’s voice grew colder.
“So, you’re not going to do as I say and fire him?” Larissa cut to the chase. “I just need an answer. Are you firing him or not?”
“He’s worked for my family for nearly a decade. I can’t just fire him!” he shot back.
“Can’t you come up with an excuse? Or are you not even going to try? Or perhaps you’ve decided to defy me over a butler?” Larissa fired off a series of questions.
“I can’t do it. If you want him gone, figure it out yourself,” Finley said, his voice hardening.
“What, you don’t want your antidote next week?” The moment she said it, Larissa understood the reason for his sudden change in attitude.
He was acting tough because he had heard from Mr. Lawson that he would be meeting the poison expert this weekend. He thought he was about to be cured, and it had made him reckless.
Larissa couldn’t help but find it amusing how impatient these people were. First Valeria, and now Finley. They couldn’t even wait until they were sure of victory before showing their true colors.
Weren’t they just asking for trouble?
Finley’s voice was firm. “Larissa, I don’t believe you’d actually poison me to death. Even if your poison is untraceable, if I die, my parents and grandfather will suspect you immediately. You may escape the law, but you won’t escape my parents‘ private revenge!”

With that, he hung up.
Listening to the dial tone, Larissa lowered her phone. Fine. Let him have his moment of delusion. The tougher he acted now, the more pathetically he would grovel later.
Just then, a message from Torrin came through.
[Tomorrow is your last chance! Larissa, this is the biggest decision of your life. I hope you think it through!]
Larissa ignored it.
Starlight Media, CEO’s Office.
After hanging up on Larissa, Finley felt a rare sense of satisfaction. He had been suffocating under her control for too long.
Once he was cured, he could stand up to her just as he had tonight. The thought sent a thrill of excitement through him.
A knock on the door broke his reverie.
“Mr. Judson,” his assistant’s voice came from outside.
“Come in.”
The assistant entered, closing the door softly behind him. He walked to the desk, pulled a designer purse from a tote, and presented it to Finley. “Mr. Judson, the thief has completed the task you assigned. Here is the bag you wanted.”
