When the light filled the room, Damian took in the bruises covering Scarlett’s body at a glance.
Her face, arms, neck–everywhere–were marked with injuries in various stages of fading.
Damian stood frozen, speechless for a long moment.
Feeling uncomfortable under his gaze, Scarlett raised a bruised hand to switch the light back off.
But before she could reach it, Damian gently caught her wrist.
His fingers trembled slightly. “Who did this to you?” he asked, his voice unsteady.
Scarlett turned her face away. “It’s no one. It’s none of your concern.”
Growing agitated, Damian stood. “Then I’ll go ask Vincent. I’m sure he knows.”
At that, Scarlett quickly relented. “It was Amanda. And Naomi.”
Hearing those names, Damian stiffened.
He lowered his voice. “When did this happen?”
Scarlett’s nose stung. When she answered, her voice was thick with tears. “The… The night before last.”
As she spoke, tears traced down her cheeks.
Seeing her cry broke something inside Damian–but it also stirred a deep, cold anger. “If I hadn’t come tonight, were you ever going to tell me?”
Scarlett pressed her lips together and didn’t answer.
“Scarlett,” he pressed, louder now. “Answer me.”
She kept her face turned away. “I don’t owe you an explanation. You don’t need to know everything about me.”
Though her words were cold, her own heart felt damp and heavy.
Hearing her response, Damian reached for her arm again.
But the moment his hand brushed her skin, she flinched with a pained grimace.

Alarmed, he carefully took her hand instead. Looking down at the bruises along her forearm, his eyes reddened instantly.
All his
anger dissolved into aching sorrow.
He held her hand, studying the marks, and tears fell from his eyes.
Scarlett initially tried to pull away. But seeing Damian cry made her heart twist unexpectedly.
“You…”
He held her hand gently. “You should rest. I’ll stay with you.”
Scarlett said nothing more, just watched his face.
Though he tried to hide it, she saw the tears–and the raw pain and worry in his eyes.
Yet she couldn’t make sense of it, part of her still doubting his sincerity.
Damian turned off the light and quietly coaxed her to sleep.
In the dim room, what Scarlett didn’t see was the silent tears that continued to streak his face.
It was very late, and exhaustion soon pulled Scarlett under.
Within minutes, she was asleep.
Damian sat beside the bed, seemingly dazed, his gaze fixed on her.
Every bruise on her body felt like a needle piercing him.
Once she was deeply asleep, he carefully tucked the blanket around her.
After watching her for a long while, he leaned down, kissed her forehead, and slipped quietly
out of the room.
Outside, he found Claire waiting in the hallway.
After steadying himself, Damian said to her, “Please stay with her a while longer.”
Claire looked confused. “Where are you going?”
He thought for a moment. “Nowhere in particular.”
Without waiting for her reply, he turned and walked away.

After Sabrina had left with Vincent, Luke and Naomi rejoined Daniel and Harris in the VIP lounge.
The group sat together, drinking and sharing stories, the bar still buzzing even in the early morning hours.
Naomi had finished two beers and was feeling uncomfortably full.
Seizing a lull in the conversation, she stood up. “I’ll be right back–just need to use the
restroom.”
Luke nodded, and she made her way out of the booth.
Straightening her dress, she stepped into the aisle–and immediately bumped into a passing
woman.
The woman had bleached blonde hair, heavy makeup, and was dressed in a revealing outfit.
After the collision, she whirled around, glaring at Naomi. “Watch where you’re going!”
Naomi, startled, retorted rudely, “It was nothing.”
That only seemed to anger the woman more. She stepped forward, crowding Naomi back step by step until she was pinned against a corner. “You bumped into me,” the woman growled, her face close. “Aren’t you going to apologize?”
