Scarlett caught the implication in Vincent’s words. Her voice was weak but sharp. “Vincent, if you want to have a meltdown, take it outside. I don’t have the energy for this.”

As soon as the words left her mouth, exhaustion washed over her. A cold sweat broke out across her skin, and a sharp, pulling pain seized her lower abdomen.

Instinctively, she pressed a hand below her navel. The pain there–different from any period cramp she’d known–told her this wasn’t normal. The soreness between her legs confirmed a deeper procedure had taken place.

Even as the realization settled in her mind, she refused to voice it.

Vincent lifted his icy gaze. The chill in his eyes seemed to seep into her. “I’ll give you time to think, Scarlett,” he said, his voice low and controlled. “Answer me when you’re ready.”

Scarlett couldn’t take the circling anymore. Using the last of her strength, she demanded, “Just

what you mean!”

Vincent’s eyes narrowed. “Oh? So you remember now?”

Scarlett leaned heavily against the raised bed, her body listing to one side. Her face was sheet- white, her eyes rimmed with furious red.

She had no strength left; every slight movement brought a fresh wave of clammy sweat.

Vincent’s imposing presence filled the room, yet he still wouldn’t spell it out.

After several rounds of this, Scarlett had pieced together what he was hinting at—and what must have happened to her.

Seeing his continued refusal to speak plainly, she finally snapped. “Vincent, with all your questions–aren’t you just trying to say I terminated the pregnancy? That I had an abortion?”

The moment the admission left her lips, Vincent’s eyes darkened completely. He pulled a stack of papers from behind him and flung them onto the bed beside her.

“How could you, Scarlett? That was my child. How could you just… get rid of it?”

Scarlett’s gaze fixed on the documents. They were her medical records–details of the procedure.

Facing his accusation, she offered a bleak, brittle smile. “Why couldn’t I? It was my choice, Vincent. My body. Whether to continue or end a pregnancy is my decision.”

Vincent stared at her, a humorless laugh escaping him. “And what about me? Didn’t I even have the right to know?”

A tightness gripped Scarlett’s chest. “What’s the point of all this now? Can you change anything?”

Even propped against the bedrail, she felt unmoored, as if she might slip away at any moment.

She was drenched in a cold sweat, her body trembling as if trapped in ice.

Seeing her defiant, guiltless expression, Vincent’s anger surged. “You ended our child’s life, and you can be this cold about it?”

Scarlett found it almost laughable. “Yes, I did. What are you going to do about it?”

Vincent could take no more. He lunged forward, his hand closing around her throat, and dragged her toward him.

He pressed his forehead hard against hers, teeth clenched. “You’re pushing me, Scarlett.”

Being choked, Scarlett could barely breathe, but her bloodshot eyes locked on his. “You pour all your care into Sabrina. My life meant nothing to you. Why should I have risked it for this child?”

Vincent’s grip tightened. His own eyes reddened. “You were pregnant and you just… erased it. Do you know what that is?”

Somewhere, Scarlett found a burst of strength. She struck his arm twice. “I’ve never regretted it. Not for a second.”

From the moment she made the decision, she had felt no regret.

If anything, she was relieved–relieved the pregnancy was early, relieved she had realized the truth in time.

As soon as she finished speaking, Vincent shoved her back violently.

She crumpled against the bedrail, her forehead striking the metal bar with a dull thud.

Vincent looked down at her coldly. “You’re out of your mind.”

With that, he stood up. He didn’t glance at her postoperative condition, didn’t acknowledge the thin trail of blood now seeping from her hairline.

He said nothing more, turning silently and walking out.

Scarlett lay twisted against the bed, her forehead pressed to the cool rail. She lacked the

strength to right herself. Turning her head slightly, she watched Vincent’s blurred figure disappear through the doorway.

She didn’t know how long she stayed like that.

Long enough for her limbs to grow numb. Then the door opened, and a doctor walked in.

Seeing her position, the doctor hurried over, carefully helping her lie back properly and pulling the blanket up to her chin.

“Are you alright?” the doctor asked, concern in his voice.

Scarlett gave a faint, dazed shake of her head, saying nothing.

Still uneasy, the doctor spoke gently. “You had an incomplete procedure which led to significant hemorrhaging. It’s a good thing you were brought in when you were. We performed a D&C to stop the bleeding. You’re stable now.”
