The Impossible Condition Novel Chapter 333

Silent Dreams Never Die — Author: John Miller 333

Chapter 333 A Stolen Title

When Vanessa was being hit by Clara, Scarlett hadn’t stepped in to stop it.

So in Vanessa’s mind, Scarlett was no longer her mother.

Sabrina had heard this kind of plea before. In the past, she would have agreed eagerly.

But this time, she pretended to hesitate. “But… Ms. Theron is still your mom, Vanessa.”

Vanessa was nearly in tears, pleading desperately, “Sabrina, please… please say yes. Just for me.”

Seeing Vanessa so humble and eager, Sabrina finally replied with satisfaction, “Alright then. But only in private, okay? Don’t call me that around other people.”

The moment Sabrina agreed, Vanessa threw her arms around her. “Mom! I knew you would! You’re the best!”

Scarlett heard every word of their exchange. Her hand, hanging at her side, tightened silently.

Damian, standing beside her, felt the weight of her pain.

For a moment, he thought she might break down right there.

With Sabrina’s permission, Vanessa began calling her “Mom” over and over, clinging to her.

Sabrina answered each time, though her mind seemed already elsewhere.

Scarlett remained quiet, but Damian had heard enough. He started toward the voices.

Scarlett quickly caught his arm. “What are you doing?”

He looked back at her coldly. “Are you really going to let her ruin your daughter like this?”

Scarlett was momentarily stunned by his question.

Was he so upset because he cared about Vanessa… or because he cared about Sabrina?

She stared at him, silent and confused.

When she didn’t respond, Damian tried to pull away.

Seeing his movement, Scarlett released his arm. Calmly, she said, “What good would it do if I went over there? Scold Vanessa? What’s the point now? Let them be.”

With that, she turned and walked back toward Clara and Eric.

She thought she’d made herself clear. If Damian still wanted to go, she wouldn’t stop him again.

Whether he was worried about Vanessa or about Sabrina, that was his choice to make.

By the time she rejoined Clara and Eric, they had already finished lunch and were playing a quiet game.

Scarlett had just sat down when Damian returned.

She was a little surprised to see him.

He hadn’t gone to Sabrina after all.

Bianca noticed they were back and quickly set out plates for their belated lunch.

As she ate, Scarlett felt a dull cramp low in her abdomen. Checking the dates in her mind, she realized her period was due soon and tried to brush off the discomfort.

Throughout the afternoon, she felt increasingly listless and drained.

Damian noticed but assumed it was because of what had happened with Vanessa.

By five o’clock, the kindergarten field trip came to an end.

Scarlett drove Clara back to Theron Manor, then headed to Ravenshade Villa.

It was half past six when she arrived–just in time for dinner.

Vincent was home, and so was Xavier. Vanessa hadn’t returned yet.

Lily had set the table. Noticing Vanessa’s absence, Xavier looked toward Scarlett as she walked in. “Where’s Vanessa? Isn’t she back yet?”

Scarlett paused, then instinctively glanced at Vincent.

Vanessa had already shut her out–how would she know where she was?

Vincent met Scarlett’s look, then answered Xavier smoothly. “She went to a friend’s house after the trip, Grandpa. She’ll be back after dinner.”

A friend?

Scarlett almost laughed bitterly. Vanessa was hardly popular at kindergarten–what friend?

But she didn’t call Vincent out on the lie.

Seeing Vanessa wouldn’t be joining them, Xavier gestured to Scarlett. “Come sit down, then. Dinner’s ready.”

Scarlett nodded and took her seat.

As she settled, another sharp cramp seized her lower abdomen.

The pain had been lingering all day, leaving her pale and visibly weary.

Even with a table full of food, she had no appetite.

Xavier asked Vincent to serve Scarlett some soup, and Vincent complied, ladling a rich, broth- based soup into her bowl.

Scarlett stared at it, feeling queasy.

Just as the meal was about to begin, Scarlett spoke up, her voice quiet but firm, “Vincent, there are two things I need to say to you. And I’d like to say them in front of Grandpa.”

Her sudden formality sent a chill through Vincent.

His first thought was that she might be about to announce their divorce right here at the table.

Not wanting to risk it, he leaned closer and said under his breath, “Grandpa’s eating. We can talk upstairs later.”

But Scarlett held his gaze. “No,” she said firmly. “We’ll talk about it here.”
