Seeing how serious Vincent looked, Sabrina didn’t dare keep teasing him. “Okay, I understand,” she murmured.
Vincent returned to his paperwork, while Sabrina sat beside him, flipping through research articles without really taking in a single word.
Damian’s message had left her on edge.
In a city like Rivergate, aside from Vincent, Damian was the most influential man around.
She already had Vincent wrapped around her finger, and now, unexpectedly, she seemed to have Damian right where she wanted him too.
At that moment, the sense of triumph she felt was just as strong as when she’d earned her doctorate.
After a moment’s thought, Sabrina switched off her tablet. “Vincent,” she said softly, “I don’t feel like studying anymore tonight. I think I’ll head back to my place to rest.”
Hearing this, Vincent stood up right away. “Alright, I’ll drive you.”
Sabrina didn’t refuse. “Okay.”
Vincent put on his jacket and walked Sabrina downstairs.
Xavier had already gone to bed–otherwise, Vincent wouldn’t have felt comfortable letting Sabrina come up so casually.
After dropping Sabrina off at the new townhouse he’d bought for her, Vincent didn’t stay long before returning to Ravenshade Villa.
Once inside, Sabrina sank into the sofa and finally replied to Damian’s text, “Mr. Langley, are you really that impatient?”
Damian’s reply came almost instantly. “Can you do it or not? Yes or no.”
From the tone, Sabrina could almost picture Damian’s frustrated, hungry look.
But just then, a news alert flashed across her screen. “Damian Langley Spotted Getting Cozy with Rising Star at Upscale Restaurant.”
Sabrina tapped the notification.
The photos and short video were clear–Damian and the actress were being openly

affectionate.
Looking at the images, Sabrina clicked her tongue in annoyance.
At the same time, another message from Damian popped up. “?”

Sabrina typed back carefully, “The man I want has to be fully committed to me–no other women in the picture. Otherwise, I just wouldn’t feel secure.”
Even though Damian was clearly already into her, Sabrina wanted to test how far he’d go.
There was a certain satisfaction in making a known playboy settle down.
When Damian read the message, he couldn’t help rolling his eyes.
He locked his phone screen without replying.
He’d thought he had things under control, but he hadn’t expected Sabrina to be so difficult.
Still, he eventually sent a reply, “Buzzkill.”
Just two words, but when Sabrina saw them, she pressed her lips together and let out a faint, disdainful laugh.
Ever since she turned 18, she’d learned one thing–if you give yourself to a man too easily, he won’t value you.
A man only stays when he’s had to work for it.
Damian had countless beautiful women around him, yet none ever stayed. Wasn’t it because they were too easy to get?
Sabrina intended to be the exception.
So she didn’t write back.
Ignoring him for a while would probably only make him want her more.
After returning to Ravenshade Villa, Vincent went back to his study to finish up some work.
He’d only been at it for a short while when the door quietly opened.
From the light footsteps, Vincent knew it was Vanessa.
He stopped what he was doing and turned. Vanessa stood there in her pajamas, clutching a stuffed animal. She walked over and asked softly, “Daddy, how much longer until you come to bed?”

Vincent bent down, lifted her onto his lap, and gently touched his forehead to hers. “Daddy has to work a little late tonight. It might be a while.”
Vanessa pouted, clearly unhappy.
Vincent gently tugged her earlobe. “Why don’t you go to sleep first, sweetheart?”
Vanessa pressed her lips together and stayed quiet.
Noticing her mood, Vincent asked patiently, “What’s the matter?”
Vanessa wasn’t entirely sure herself. She just… kind of missed Scarlett.
When her mom was around, she never yelled–she always spoke softly and kindly.
But last night, Maria had been so harsh with her. Of course she felt hurt.
Still, Maria had explained she was only strict because she didn’t want Vanessa to keep crying.
Remembering that, Vanessa held back. After all, she’d promised Maria not to tell.
When she didn’t answer, Vincent tried, “How about going to sleep in Maria’s room tonight?”
At the mention of Maria’s name, Vanessa instinctively shook her head. “No, I don’t want to.”
Thinking she just wanted his company, Vincent reassured her, “Then I will come tuck you in as soon as I’m done, okay?”
Vanessa didn’t reply. She slipped off his lap and, without another word, padded back to her own
room.
Lying in her soft bed, she felt a hollow ache inside.
She waited a few minutes, but Vincent didn’t follow.
In that quiet loneliness, Vanessa suddenly missed Scarlett terribly.
