The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 295

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash ` 295

Chapter 295

Back then, he feared nothing and no one, but he would always

listen when Charlotte told him off.

It was probably a habit that started back then.

“Charlotte’s a lawyer. If I investigate her, she’ll find out easily. She already won’t accept me, what if she finds out and gets angry?”

“Then I’ll help…”

“Don’t.”

Bradley pouted. “In Charlotte’s eyes, we’re thick as thieves.

What’s the difference between you looking into it and me doing it?”

“Who says I’m thick as thieves with you?”

Roderick held back a laugh and shot him a look.

“I’m a married man. I have no interest in siding with a lonely

single.”

Bradley’s face fell instantly.

Who discriminates against lonely singles these days

Madeleine wasn’t sure what Leona liked to eat, so she made sure to ask for her opinion when choosing a restaurant.

Leona told her coolly that she had been sticking to a low–fat diet for years, and even her occasional cheat meal was just a

simple, low–oil, low–salt home–cooked dish.

Madeleine felt quite ashamed hearing that.

She rubbed her nose and gave a dry laugh, “Seriously, Leona, with that kind of determination, you could succeed at anything.”

“Really?

But I always feel like it’s not enough.”

Leona’s voice was quiet, faint, and seemed to carry a hint of

sadness.

Madeleine found it strange and couldn’t help but glance at her

again.

If Leona was just fixated on competing with her, why did she

keep showing that kind of expression?

Was there some other story to her?

Of course, these were just Madeleine’s wild thoughts.

She and Leona weren’t close enough to pry into each other’s private lives. Madeleine was someone who respected boundaries; if Leona didn’t bring it up, she would never ask.

As for watching the drama unfold, it was enough to just follow what was happening with her close friends.

In the end, Madeleine chose a restaurant that was relatively on the lighter side.

The restaurant’s atmosphere was elegant, the lighting was soft, and it really did fit Leona’s low–oil, low–salt requirements.

The four of them sat down. Madeleine thoughtfully laid out

napkins for the two children and poured a glass of warm water

for Leona.

“I’ve been to this place with my best friend before. The food is

pretty good. You should try it in a bit.”

“Hey, you’ve been abroad for the past few days, so you probably

haven’t eaten much local food, right? Are you still used to

Chinese food?”

“It’s okay if you’re not. They have Western dishes here too.”

She said, playfully sticking out her tongue.

“It’s just a bit of a fusion, not quite Western, not quite Chinese.”

Leona didn’t say anything. Watching Madeleine, she was reminded of high school.

Compared to back then, it seemed like Madeleine hadn’t changed at all.

It was just that back then, whenever Leona saw Madeleine’s innocent smile, she always felt irritated and gloomy.

Looking at it now, for some reason, it felt much more comforting.

“Here, take a look. These are some of the good ones I’ve tried.”

Madeleine brought the menu over and tirelessly went through it

with Leona, pointing out one dish after another.

Leona pulled her thoughts back, looked down, and casually

pointed to two dishes.

She had never been particular about food; as long as it was

edible and kept her from starving, it was fine.

“Okay, then we’ll order some other things. Come on, Mina, Kev, come see what you want to eat.”

The two little ones looked through the menu together, murmuring and discussing.

“How about the grilled salmon? Madeleine likes this.”

“But Mom prefers the Sweet and Sour Crispy Fish.”

“Hey, didn’t you hear what Leona said? She has to watch her weight. The Sweet and Sour Crispy Fish is high in calories.”

Kev opened his mouth, then nodded with some resignation.

Fine, he just wanted his mom to eat something she liked.

The two little ones didn’t stop talking, but after all their back

and forth, they ended up ordering all of Madeleine’s favorite

dishes.

Leona sat across from them, silently watching everything, and a

strong feeling of… envy began to grow inside her.

She realized that it seemed no one had ever clearly

remembered what she liked.

Including her own parents.

Chapter 295

Since the day she was born, she was the family’s hope. Her

family poured everything they had into her dance lessons,

always repeating the same thing:

“You’ve spent so much of the family’s money on dance, you

have to make it big.”

“Leona, you have to be successful, or you’ll be letting your

parents down.”

That thought was branded into Leona’s mind, into her very life. Her world seemed to shrink to just ballet, training, and the goal

of constantly outdoing herself.
