Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash ` 274
Chapter 274
Adrian gave a helpless smile and patted Rebecca’s head.
After Adrian left, Rebecca felt a sudden emptiness inside for no
reason.
So this is what being in a relationship is like.
Your heart races because of something he says, you blush
because of a look he gives you, and you start looking forward to
the next time you’ll meet the moment you part ways.
Rebecca couldn’t help but lower her head and smile at herself.
She used to look down on people who were insecure and
anxious in their relationships, thinking that worrying about one
person was a complete waste of life.
Now, she had become one of them.
Rebecca decided to go find Madeleine. She called to ask where
she was, but no one answered.
“What is it?”
“Where’s your wife?”
“Why should I tell you where my wife is?”
Roderick was annoyed.
Lately, Rebecca had been really dependent on Madeleine. Any little relationship problem she had with Adrian, she had to talk
to Madeleine about it.
What was there to talk about? She was the one dating Adrian,
not his Madeleine.
His wife went to dance class in the morning, was busy with
work in the afternoon, and had to spend time with their son at
night. She barely had any time for him anymore.
“Roderick, do you have to be so petty? Or are you jealous?
You’re even jealous of me?

A soft huff came from the other end of the line. “My wife’s time
is precious. She doesn’t have time to listen to your relationship
drama.”
“You’re unbelievable!”

Rebecca’s eyes widened, then a sly glint appeared in them. “If
you don’t let her see me, then I guess I won’t get to hear her
praise you.”
The other end of the line went silent for a moment, followed by
Roderick’s slightly uncomfortable voice:
“Praise me?
What did she say about me.”
“Oh, I forgot. Maybe I’m just hungry since I haven’t eaten. Ah,
what a shame. If I don’t get to see Madeleine, I’ll never know if
she was going to keep praising her darling husband~”
With just two sentences, she had him.
After a few seconds of silence, Roderick’s cool, restrained voice
came over the line:
“I’ve booked a table for you at a restaurant on West End
Avenue. It’s one she likes. I’ll have the driver take her there in a
bit.”
“That’s more like it!”
In the restaurant, soft lighting mingled with the elegant sound

of a violin.
When Rebecca arrived, Madeleine was already sitting by the
window, resting her chin on her hand and waving at her.
“Hurry up!”
Madeleine’s eyes were sparkling. “I can’t wait to hear the details
of your date!”
Rebecca sat down with a smile, glancing toward the entrance
with a hint of suspicion.
“What’s wrong? What are you looking at?”
Madeleine turned to look. There was nothing at the entrance.
Rebecca shook her head. “It just feels weird, like someone’s
following me.”
Madeleine’s eyes widened. “Don’t scare me. I’ll call the
bodyguards over right now.”
Roderick had arranged bodyguards for her before, but she later
found them to be a nuisance. Plus, the threat from Nanette had
been dealt with, so she stopped having them follow her.
Rebecca laughed. “I probably just watched a mystery movie and

am being a little paranoid.”
“Don’t tell me your date was just dinner and a movie?”
“Yeah.”
Madeleine was quite disappointed. She leaned in closer and
lowered her voice, “Didn’t Professor Shaw do anything?
Like… kissing and hugging?”
Rebecca’s face flushed as she remembered the unfinished kiss
in the car, and the warmth of Adrian’s breath as he drew near.
“Well… there was something.”
She admitted in a small voice.
Madeleine instantly got excited. “Quick, tell me!
What did it feel like?”
“It was just…”
Just as Rebecca was about to describe it, she suddenly
remembered the tense line of Adrian’s jaw when he took that
call, and her tone unconsciously darkened. “Actually, there was
a small hiccup in the middle of it.”
Chapter 274
She swirled her wine glass, choosing her words carefully. “He
took a call from a family member, and he seemed a little off
after that.”
Madeleine keenly sensed the shift in her mood. “What’s wrong?
What happened?”
“I’m not sure. I just felt his mood was strange after the call. At
first, I thought it was about work, but he just mentioned it was
family.”
Madeleine rested her chin on her hand.
“Should I ask Roderick about it? He probably knows about
Professor Shaw’s family situation.”
Rebecca hesitated for half a second, then shook her head.
“Let’s just forget it. He didn’t tell me himself. If he wanted to say something, he would have.”
As she spoke, Rebecca took a sip of water, a flicker of
uncertainty in her eyes.
