The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 249

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash ` 249

Chapter 249

Rebecca nervously picked a melon, only to hear Adrian burst

out laughing.

“Can you believe what a jerk he is? His own butler and staff

grew these. He tricked me, made me think I was stealing!”

Rebecca angrily carried a pile of melons inside, and when she

saw Charlotte and the woman beside her, her eyes immediately

lit up.

Whoa, now this was the real gossip.

Except for Simon and Isabella, everyone else knew each other,

so there was no worry about the atmosphere getting awkward.

“Charlotte, you guys probably haven’t eaten since you got here.

Quick, have some BBQ skewers.”

Isabella brought the plate over to them. The young woman was

sweet and diligent, which made her very likable.

“Bradley grilled all of these. He’s really good at it.”

Bradley?

Chapter 249

Charlotte took the plate, glanced smilingly at Isabella, and then

at Bradley.

Looks like the last blind date was a success.

The sun came out a bit in the afternoon, making the yard feel

warm and cozy. Kevin yawned, saying he was sleepy and

wanted to take a nap.

Madeleine had offered to go with him, but the little guy was

being very good.

“Mom, you go have fun with your friends. I can go by myself.”

“Oh, Kev, how could Mommy let you do that?

I’ll go with you.”

The little guy beamed, genuinely seeming to think it was no big

deal.

“You really don’t have to, Mom. I’m a big kid now. I’m going into

my last year of preschool next year, I can go by myself!”

Madeleine’s heart warmed up when she heard that.

This little guy was so thoughtful.

Chapter 249

She bent down and planted a smooch on her son’s soft little

cheek. “Such a good boy, Kev. You can go by yourself then, just

call for Mom if you need anything.”

“Okay.”

Kevin nodded obediently, and hugging the little stuffed toy he’d

brought from home, he pattered off into the house by himself.

Madeleine watched her son return to his room before she

immediately spun around, her eyes flashing as her gaze locked

onto the three couples in the yard… oh, no, the extremely

complicated web of relationships.

With the kids not around, the adults could be less guarded with

their conversation.

Bradley’s gaze swept over Simon.

“What do you do, Mr. Adler?”

“Same profession as your sister.”

“Oh, a lawyer too.”

Bradley nodded, “Lawyers probably don’t have to entertain

clients much, right? Can you hold your liquor?”

Chapter 249

Simon froze for a second, not quite getting it.

“My tolerance?”

Bradley turned to look at Adrian.

“Professor Shaw, you got any alcohol in this manor?”

Adrian put down his teacup and nodded, “There’s some in the

cellar. Not a huge collection, but they’re all good wines.”

After speaking, his gaze from behind his glasses swept over

Bradley’s tense profile and Simon’s slightly awkward

expression.

With just one glance, the ever–so–sharp Professor Shaw figured

out what was going on, a knowing smile appearing on his face.

“What, feel like having a drink?”

“It’s rare for so many of us to be here, it’s lively. We can’t just sit

around and talk.”

Adrian nodded, “I’ll go make the arrangements then.”

After Adrian went inside, Rebecca leaned over to Madeleine

and scoffed.

Chapter 249

“This guy said he was just coming back to the manor to grab something. What, not in a hurry to get his stuff and leave

anymore?”

“Rebecca, you’re hilarious.”

Madeleine couldn’t stop laughing, leaning on Roderick’s shoulder, looking like she was handing out free PDA.

Well, what can you do? They were the only real married couple

there.

Seeing the situation, Simon awkwardly adjusted his glasses.

“Um, I’m not much of a drinker. Maybe you guys should go

ahead.”

“How can that be okay? The guy… my sister found. I can’t judge his character right now, so I at least have to see what he’s like

when he’s drunk.”

The jab in his words was too obvious.

The air in the courtyard instantly became tense again.

The faint smile on Charlotte’s face vanished, her brow furrowing

slightly. “Bradley.”

Chapter 249

She just said his name, with a hint of disapproving warning.

But Bradley acted like he didn’t hear her, still staring at Simon,

his gaze stubborn, even with a touch of a teenager’s brutish

unreasonableness.

He was holding in a vicious anger, a fire that burned his insides,

and he just wanted a way to let it out.

Alcohol, and getting this suddenly–appeared “boyfriend” drunk,

became his most immediate goal.

Simon pushed up his glasses, and faced with this sudden

hostility, he quickly regained his composure.

He smiled, his tone still gentle, but not without a sense of

propriety. “My tolerance for alcohol really isn’t great, but since

Bradley wants to drink, I’ll naturally keep him company.
