Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash ` 247
“I’ve been patient, I’ve waited, I even made excuses for you
after you ran away…”
His thumb gently caressed her lower lip, his gaze so deep it
could suck a person in.
“Rebecca, you’re so smart. Tell me, what is this?”
Rebecca was cornered by him, surrounded by his hot breath
and blunt words, her body stiff, but her blood felt like it was
boiling.
She stared at his lips, just inches away, her mind a blank, with
only his words echoing inside.
What was this?
She knew perfectly well.
She just never dared to admit it.
The mountain wind seemed to fall still, the air thick with a
charged tension, both intimate and dangerous.

Their lips touched, beyond their control.
Just as Adrian was about to deepen the kiss, Rebecca shoved him away and shot to her feet.
“I don’t know.”
Her voice trembled.
“Adrian, I don’t know if I like you, and I have no idea if you’re just
playing me or if you actually have feelings for me. It’s too fast.
You have to let me think.”
He forced his desire down.
Adrian pushed himself to his feet.
“Fine. I’ll give you time.”
He nodded.
“Is an afternoon enough time?”
Rebecca almost choked.
“How long?”
“An afternoon.”

Adrian said, glancing at the time.
“To be precise, from now until eight o’clock tonight, you have
seven and a half hours. That’s plenty of time to think.”
Rebecca’s mouth twitched.
It was like a game of tag, he was chasing her so hard.
“No, an afternoon is too short.”
“Okay.”
Adrian nodded, looking very agreeable, “Then I’ll add one night. I
need to hear your answer before midnight.”
This seemed to be his final bit of leniency.
After saying that, he immediately dropped the topic. “Let’s go,
we’re heading back.”
After personally sending off the gossip she was so eager for,
Madeleine returned to the yard and sat down, feeling bummed.
Roderick brought over the freshly grilled BBQ skewers and sat
down beside her.
Chapter 247
“Which one do you want?”
“Gossip.”
“Watermelon?
Cucumber?
Or cantaloupe.”
Madeleine clicked her tongue. Seeing Roderick trying to hold
back a laugh, she knew he was teasing her on purpose.
“You’re so annoying.”
Roderick put down the plate and, smiling, pinched Madeleine’s
puffy cheeks.
“Didn’t you know how annoying I was when you were a kid?”
Madeleine couldn’t help but laugh when she heard that.
True.
No one hated Roderick more than she did back then.
Taking a skewer of grilled meat from the plate, Madeleine
sighed as she ate.

it meant to like someone early on.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
Madeleine raised an eyebrow, pestering him for an analysis.
Roderick thought for a moment.
“If I were Adrian, I wouldn’t try to be the ‘perfect‘ professor, or
an all–powerful savior.”
He narrowed his eyes. “Quite the opposite. I’d tear away some
of my own disguise and let her see my insecurities, my
possessiveness, even the darker parts of my personality.”
Roderick paused after speaking, a knowing look in his eyes.
“The reason Rebecca is so resistant, aside from being confused
about her feelings, is a deeper issue: she feels ‘unworthy.”
“Unworthy?”
Madeleine’s heart sank. She looked up at Kevin, who wasn’t far
off.
