The Heart Surgeon’s Last Patient Novel Chapter 227

Night Carved Paths Into Silence by Zyrel Ash ` 227

He went to the window, opened it to let the cold air clear his

head for a bit, then went downstairs.

Kirsten, who had just finished cleaning and was about to rest,

was surprised to see Roderick come downstairs and head

straight for the kitchen.

“Sir, you haven’t eaten?”

“I have. It’s Madeleine’s period, so I’m making her some Brown

Sugar Ginger Tea.”

Kirsten smiled at that. “You’re so thoughtful, sir. But does that

stuff really do much?”

“Mmm, it’s more for peace of mind.”

Roderick nodded, expertly retrieving the brown sugar and ginger

from the cabinet.

Madeleine was extremely picky; even with simple Brown Sugar

Ginger Tea, she wouldn’t drink it if it was too sweet and

fattening, or too spicy from too much ginger.

Practice makes perfect, and Roderick had already mastered her

preferences.

Watching this from the side of the kitchen, Kirsten couldn’t help

but smile.

How wonderful.

Chase and Roderick should have been living this kind of loving,

happy life long ago.

While Madeleine was suffering from period cramps, Rebecca

was in the ER with the pain of gastroenteritis.

In the middle of the night, lacking even the strength to drive,

she took a cab to the nearest emergency room.

“Gastroenteritis. Did you eat anything raw or cold?”

“Yes… I had Japanese food for lunch, and… iced coffee in the

afternoon.”

The doctor sighed and shook his head. “Acute gastroenteritis. You’ll need an IV drip.”

He then glanced behind Rebecca.

“You came alone?”

Rebecca nodded, her lips pale from the pain, but she hadn’t

called a single person to come with her.

Figuring Rebecca was a single girl trying to make it in the big city, the doctor’s expression softened with sympathy.

He called a nurse, who helped Rebecca to a seat in the infusion

hall.

Once the needle was in, the nurse told her it would take about

two more hours.

“So when will the pain stop?”

Rebecca struggled to even get the words out, her forehead

beaded with sweat.

“The medicine doesn’t work that fast.”

“Okay… thank you.”

She sucked in a sharp breath from the pain, her mind blank, and instinctively pulled out her phone, snapped a picture, and

posted it to her moments, visible to only one person.

Five seconds after posting, she instantly deleted it.

Chapter 227

Crazy…

She wasn’t even “Eleanor” anymore, so why was she still playing

these little games?

She was really losing her mind.

Rebecca gave a bitter smile and shook her head.

The emergency room was quiet at night, with a few people

scattered around the infusion hall.

Most of them were accompanied by family or friends.

In comparison, Rebecca’s lonely figure seemed a bit out of

place.

She closed her eyes, propping her head up with one hand, a dull

pain still throbbing in her stomach.

She actually wanted a cup of hot water, but she didn’t want to

bother a nurse to get it for her.

Forget it, she’d just bear with it a little longer.

She never liked to bother other people.

Drowsily, Rebecca seemed to have fallen asleep. After getting

through more than half the IV bag, the pain in her stomach had

eased a bit.

Her arm went numb and her head slumped down, only to be

caught by a large, steady hand.

She instinctively opened her eyes, turned her head, and saw

Adrian beside her. She was so startled she nearly jumped out of

her skin.

Was she seeing things?

Adrian was only wearing a white shirt, its sleeves rolled up to

his forearms, with a black overcoat draped over his other arm.

His forehead seemed to be covered in a thin layer of sweat.

“You…”

Rebecca’s voice was a bit stiff as she asked awkwardly, “You

saw my moments post?”

She couldn’t think of any other reason.

Adrian didn’t say anything. He just placed the overcoat on a

stool, glanced around, and his eyes landed on a water dispenser not far away. He walked straight over and came back

with a cup of hot water.

“I remember I deleted that moments post right away. Sorry, you

still saw it.”

Adrian handed her the water.

“Wasn’t it posted intentionally for me to see?”

Rebecca was too embarrassed to look up, and just took the

water in silence.

She took a few sips, and her stomach felt much better.

“Yes, I admit it. Some of my previous moments posts were

meant for you to see, including today’s… but I wasn’t thinking

straight, so I deleted it immediately.”

This was unbelievable. Adrian didn’t usually stare at his phone

that much.

Adrian fell silent and sat down next to her.

He looked up at the IV drip. There was still a lot left, it would

probably be another hour or so.
