When Time Tried to Heal Me But I Refused to Listen by Kael Niro Senn 84 Summary

In “When Time Tried to Heal Me But I Refused to Listen,” the story unfolds with Curtis and Adriana interacting in a light-hearted yet tense atmosphere. Curtis hands desserts to Adriana while dismissing Nicole’s request for snacks, revealing his protective nature and annoyance with her. Nicole’s jealousy and attempts to manipulate Curtis by mentioning her grandpa only serve to highlight the tension between the characters. As Curtis confidently takes charge, he instructs Tom to escort Nicole away, demonstrating his assertiveness and disregard for her threats.

Adriana’s surprise at encountering John, a figure from her past, adds an emotional layer to the narrative. Memories flood back as she grapples with her past injuries and the changes time has wrought. The kindness shown by John, who offers her strawberry bites, brings a moment of warmth and happiness to Adriana, reminding her of simpler pleasures. This kindness contrasts with Nicole’s bitterness, emphasizing Adriana’s ability to find joy in small gestures, even from strangers.

The plot takes a thrilling turn when Curtis leads Adriana into a fitting room, showcasing their growing bond and his daring personality. Adriana’s heart races as she finds herself in close proximity to Curtis, who seems to revel in the secrecy of their escape from Nicole’s pursuit. This moment deepens their connection, as Adriana feels both excitement and confusion about her feelings for him. Meanwhile, Nicole’s frustration and futile search for them underline her inability to control the situation, further isolating her from the unfolding romance.

Curtis’s casual demeanor as he purchases clothes for Adriana surprises her, highlighting his attentiveness despite his seemingly aloof attitude. Adriana’s embarrassment at his knowledge of her size reveals the budding intimacy between them, as well as her internal conflict about her feelings. Their playful interaction over dessert signifies a shift in their relationship, as Adriana begins to see Curtis in a different light, recognizing the charm that draws her in. Ultimately, the chapter captures the complexities of friendship, jealousy, and the potential for romance amid the backdrop of past traumas and present desires.

Curtis’s hand stiffened for a moment, but he didn’t say anything. He took the desserts over to Adriana and handed them to her.

Nicole froze. “Curtis … what about mine?”

“Ms. Barton, you shouldn’t be eating street snacks. If you get a stomachache, I’m afraid Jeremy will blame me. You should go have some regular food instead,” Curtis said casually, suddenly feeling like her was really getting on his nerves.

“Adriana! Adriana, over here! I’ve got the strawberry bites you love.” The door of the little shop opened, and the owner stepped out carrying a bag, calling Adriana’s name.

Adriana froze. That voice… it sounds like the butler from that young man’s house back in Govendale.

Startled, she turned and looked at him, her voice trembling slightly. “John?”

She vaguely remembered the voice, but after so many years, it had changed a bit, so she wasn’t sure.

Besides … back then, her eyes had been injured, and she couldn’t see. She had no idea what the butler, John Manning, looked like.

Curtis glanced at John and subtly shook his head.

John smiled, ignoring Adriana’s question. “Mr. Lincoln told me you loved these.”

Adriana blinked, then looked back at Curtis. So I’ve been overthinking it.

“Thank you, sir.” She accepted the strawberry bites, smiling happily.

Even when it came from a stranger, a kind gesture like this was heartwarming.

She was always someone who was easily satisfied.

John turned back to his shop to continue his work. Nicole stood there, jealous and sulking. “Curtis, I want

some too.”

Curtis didn’t even look at Nicole. He held Adriana’s hand as he moved forward. “There are other snacks over there. Want some? I’ll go get in line.”

Adriana shook her head. She had two servings of dessert balls—she wouldn’t be able to finish them.

“Curtis …” Nicole whined from behind. “Grandpa said you should stay with me. If you do this, I’ll tell him you’re bullying me.”

She started threatening Curtis.

But Curtis wasn’t the type to be threatened. As someone who dared to go against Harold, his mood swings were way worse than Nicole’s.

“Tom, take her back.” Curtis looked at Tom and instructed him to escort Nicole away.

Tom hesitated. “But Mr. Harold said–”

“Do whatever you wish. If she gets lost, it’s not my problem.” Curtis said, then pulled Adriana through a side door into the mall. He casually picked a clothing store, and in front of everyone, smoothly dragged Adriana into the fitting room.

It was seamless–even the store staff didn’t realize two people had just entered the fitting room.

Adriana was in Curtis’s arms, listening to his heartbeat, and her own heart raced.

She secretly glanced up at him. Is he some kind of secret agent? Doing something so sneaky felt completely natural for him.

Meanwhile, Nicole had chased them for ages but couldn’t find them. She stomped her foot in frustration.

“Ms. Barton … maybe we should head back,” Tom said helplessly, taking Nicole away.

“Adriana! Just you wait–I’m definitely going to Harold to report you!” Nicole ground her teeth in jealousy as she turned and left.

In the fitting room, Curtis calmly led Adriana out when he felt the time was right. He then casually picked out an outfit from the rack and handed it to the staff. “This one, and this one.”

The staff barely had time to process why there were suddenly two people in the fitting room, but she still smiled and nodded. “Okay, I’ll wrap these up for you.”

Adriana wanted to disappear into a hole in the floor. And yet Curtis acted as naturally as if nothing were happening.

After paying, Curtis handed the clothes to Adriana.

Adriana was stunned. “You bought these for me?”

She had expected him to just grab a few random pieces.

“You didn’t even check the size … “What if they didn’t fit? That would be such a waste.

“I did. They fit you perfectly.” Curtis looked at Adriana, then found a casual seating area, helping her open the dessert so she could eat first.

“How did you know my size?” Adriana asked, surprised.

Curtis glanced at her. “Take a guess.”

Adriana understood immediately, and her face flushed.

Sometimes, he can be so irritating when he’s acting all serious.

“Curtis, is it really okay for us to treat Nicole like this?” Adriana whispered, taking a bite of the dessert balls.. They tasted exactly like she remembered from years ago!

“She showed up uninvited. That’s not okay.” Curtis leaned back in his chair, looking at Adriana.

Adriana froze for a moment, then scooped up a dessert ball for Curtis. “Do you want some?”

After asking, she immediately regretted it.

She tried to pull back, but Curtis held her hand.

Adriana stared at him in surprise as he actually ate from her spoon….

Her heart raced, and her ears warmed.

This guy… He always does things that make people misunderstand.

No wonder Danielle was so afraid I’d fall for Curtis. He’s got that bad–boy charm!

Conclusion

As the day unfolded, Adriana found herself caught in a whirlwind of emotions, oscillating between joy and confusion. Curtis, with his effortless charm and protective demeanor, had managed to break down the walls she had built around her heart. The small acts of kindness, like the surprise gifts and the shared desserts, were more than just gestures; they were a reminder that she was seen and valued. In a world where she often felt invisible, Curtis’s attention illuminated her existence, making her question the boundaries she had set for herself. The thrill of their connection filled her with a warmth she hadn’t felt in years, and for the first time in a long time, she allowed herself to embrace the possibility of happiness.

However, the shadow of Nicole’s jealousy lingered, serving as a reminder of the complexities that accompanied their newfound bond. While Curtis’s nonchalance towards Nicole’s threats provided Adriana with a sense of security, it also stirred a twinge of guilt within her. Was it fair to revel in this moment when it came at the expense of someone else’s feelings? Yet, as she glanced at Curtis, a man who seemed unafraid to carve his own path, she realized that sometimes, embracing joy meant facing discomfort head-on. With each shared laugh and stolen glance, Adriana began to understand that healing was not just about the absence of pain but also about the courage to open her heart again. In Curtis, she saw not just a companion but a catalyst for change, prompting her to reconsider what it truly meant to live freely and authentically.
