I let my body sink deeper into the soft mattress, every muscle heavy and boneless, like I had been w thought. I didn’t have the energy to move, didn’t even want to. My eyes stayed closed as I lingered in gentle, humming warmth still spreading through me, slow and sweet, like waves retreating after a storm.

“You can’t pass out on me, bunny,” he murmured, his voice close I felt the light brush of his fingers against my cheek, tender, almost careful, as if he was grounding me back into the room. 

“It’s your fault,” I replied weakly, a small smile tugging at my lips “You drained all the energy out of me.” I said it like an accusation, even though we both knew I had begged for every second of it. 

A quiet laugh escaped him. “No one’s stopping you from draining mine,” he said, that familiar confidence slipping into his tone. “If that makes us even.” 

That finally made me open my eyes. 

His gaze was already on me, dark and steady, holding mine without apology. Up close, there was something disarming about him, something that went beyond arrogance or charm. It was the way he watched me like he was memorizing every expression, every breath. 

I lifted an eyebrow slowly, still sprawled against the bed, studying him in return. “Is that a challenge?” I asked, my voice soft but edged with intent. 

A slow, dangerous smile curved his lips. “Only if you want it to be.” 

The air between us shifted again, charged and quiet all at once. My exhaustion was still there, heavy and real, but beneath it stirred something else–defiance, curiosity, and a growing need to prove that I wasn’t as fragile as he seemed to think.
