Chapter 990
Serenity believed she could simply wear anything.
However, Audrey insisted they needed to dress appropriately for the occasion.
This evening’s event was aimed at the upper middle class. Audrey had initially planned to skip the social gathering, but since Serenity requested a favor, she thought it would be a great opportunity for Serenity to make her entrance into that social circle. As a result, she informed the host that she would attend on Serenity’s behalf to help her ease into the group.
Since the event was not exclusive to the elite, there was no need for overly extravagant attire. Audrey chose not to select the fanciest gown for Serenity.
Serenity had a slim figure and striking features. She also carried herself with poise. Any gown would highlight her natural beauty.
When Serenity emerged in the gown, Audrey commented, “Seren, you have such a refined presence. Your figure looks stunning in that dress. Just remember not to walk too quickly.”
Although Serenity was trained in self-defense and possessed natural beauty, she moved with a confidence that was more assertive than graceful. Her pace was certainly faster than that of most ladies.
“Aunt Audrey, I could easily stamp someone with these heels.”
Having mostly worn sneakers or flats, Serenity was unaccustomed to high heels. The most she would wear were kitten heels when attending upscale events with Jasmine and Mrs. Sox. High heels were a rarity for her.
“I will fully support you if you decide to invest in a project or business with Elisa. I don’t mind if you move quickly, but tonight, you need to act like a lady. Take your time. I could hardly keep up with you when we went shopping the other day.”
A blush crept onto Serenity’s cheeks.
Elisa revealed the stunning stilettos.
for Serenity tonight.
Feeling intimidated by the stilettos, Serenity asked, “Aunt Audrey, Elisa, I’m worried I won’t be able to walk in those heels. They’re so high and thin. Will they break if I run?”
Audrey was left speechless.
Elisa smiled and replied, “No one is asking you to run in those heels.”
Serenity glanced at her aunt’s face before slipping on the stilettos. Taking Elisa’s hand, she stood up and took a few hesitant steps, fighting the urge to kick off the heels.
Oh, how she missed her cozy house loafers.
“Wear these heels down the stairs and walk a few laps on the front lawn. We can leave when you feel comfortable in them,” Audrey instructed.
She had been so focused on picking outfits and shoes for Serenity that she had forgotten to let her practice in the heels.
Quietly, Serenity stuck out her tongue. Without defying Aunt Audrey’s orders, she cautiously strutted out of the room.
“I’ll go with you, Seren, Mom,” Elisa said.
Taking pity on Serenity, Elisa cheerfully accompanied her cousin.
Once outside the room, Elisa shot Serenity a sympathetic glance as the latter clung to the banister while walking. “You asked for this. You could have sought help from anyone, but you turned to my mother. She’s all about etiquette and could probably work for the Queen. If you mess up, she’ll likely tell you to start over,” Elisa remarked.
Serenity was at a loss for words.
Who else could she turn to if not Aunt Audrey?
If she had gone to Zachary, he would have spoiled her and been perfectly fine with her leaving home in her loafers.
“We still have hours before the event, so take your time to practice,” Elisa added with a smile. “I’ll be right here with you.”
