Chapter 982
“You can talk to me about it, Nana. There’s no need to look for Duncan.”
“I don’t need you. Stop asking questions and just give me Duncan’s number.”
Zachary hesitantly provided his best friend’s number to his grandmother. After doing so, he pressed, “What’s going on, Nana? Why do you need to talk to Duncan?”
“It’s none of your business. Now, go back to work.”
Grandma May promptly hung up on her beloved grandson after obtaining Duncan’s number.
On the other end, Zachary was left speechless.
Was it too much to ask for an explanation?
Meanwhile, Grandma May dialed Duncan’s number and spoke anxiously when he answered, “It’s bad, Duncan! It’s really bad! Those ridiculous people are targeting Liberty again. It’s her ex-mother-in-law and sister-in-law. They’re jealous that Liberty opened a diner and want her to hand over ownership of the restaurant. Liberty can’t face them alone. She’s no longer the two-hundred-pound woman she used to be.”
“I’m just an old lady. There’s only so much I can do. I can’t scare them off by lying on the ground. I’m calling you for help. Your office is the closest, and you can send a few security guards over.”
Without allowing Duncan to respond, Grandma May ended the call.
“I’ll know your intentions if you come here in person, but I might misjudge you if you send security guards instead.”
Gripping her phone tightly, Grandma May exited the restroom.
It was unclear what the Brown mother and daughter had said, but Liberty looked furious as she chased them away.
Grandma May almost rushed to pull Mrs. Brown and Chelsea back.
How was Duncan supposed to play the hero without the Browns present?
Fortunately, Grandma May could rely on Mrs.
Brown and Chelsea decided to stay. They refused to leave without a fight.
“Liberty, Chelsea is in a difficult situation. Hank doesn’t have much money with the wedding approaching. It’s not like you spend a lot on yourself or Sonny. Besides, you have your sister to assist you. You can lend Chelsea two hundred thousand dollars to start a business. Don’t worry; it’s just a loan. She’ll repay you. We’re family after all.”
The real reason Mrs. Brown and Chelsea were there was to ask Liberty for money to help George start a business.
With a straight face, Liberty clicked her tongue. “Don’t play the family card with me. My mom only gave birth to me and Seren; we’re not related to you. You should leave before I grab the broom.”
Liberty should let her relatives handle her former in-laws. It would only lead to a nasty confrontation.
“No matter what, I’m Sonny’s aunt. Can’t you think of Sonny’s sake…”
“You’re Sonny’s aunt, not mine. Sonny is relying on his mother now, so using his name won’t get you anywhere. Leave now and stop harassing me.”
Chelsea frowned. “You can either lend me the money or give me a job. If not, I’m not leaving. You can’t force me out!” With that, she marched over to a table and took a seat.
Liberty was exasperated. The audacity of these people!
Grandma May observed silently.
Liberty unblocked Hank from her contacts and called him. Once he answered, she bluntly said, “Hank, hurry up and take your mom and sister away. They came here to speak ill of you and Jessica again. I’m tired of listening to them.”
Hank was bewildered. Hadn’t his mother and sister gone to Liberty to ask for money? How had it turned into them badmouthing him and Jessica?
