Chapter 966
Zachary casually posed a question as he took Serenity’s hand to play with after finishing his meal.
The last time he saw Clive, he mentioned that Clive had not fathered a child despite being married for several years. Now, Alice was suddenly pregnant.
Zachary found himself wondering when Serenity would also conceive.
While he wasn’t in a rush to have children, he enjoyed the journey of intimacy.
Having remained chaste for so long, every cell in his body craved Serenity.
Unfortunately, he knew he had to wait a bit longer.
He lifted her hand to examine her injured finger, ensuring it was healing properly, and gently kissed the wounded digit.
He regretted that it was his fault she had gotten hurt.
“I spoke with Liberty about it. She’ll purchase some supplements. As a mother, she knows more than I do. Once she gets them, we’ll send them over together.”
Serenity felt genuinely happy about Alice’s pregnancy.
“That sounds good. I’ll reimburse Liberty for the cost of the supplements.”
Serenity hummed in agreement.
“Seren.”
“What is it?”
“I just wanted to say your name and hear your voice.”
Zachary pulled her into his strong embrace, holding her soft and delicate form tightly. “Seren, you can’t imagine how much I’ve missed you on the days I couldn’t be with you.”
Serenity leaned against his chest, listening as he whispered about his pain and longing.
In truth, she hadn’t fared well either.
However, she was certainly better off than he was.
“The others are still on their lunch break, so you should rest to regain your energy for later.”
“Will you stay with me?”
Serenity lifted her head from his arms and gazed at him for a moment.
At that moment, she finally nodded. Zachary’s heart soared with joy. He immediately picked her up and carried her into the lounge.
As the young couple reconciled, Grandma May arrived at the breakfast spot just as Liberty was feeding Sonny.
“Grandma May, what brings you here?” Liberty set down the bowl and stood to greet the elderly woman.
“I came to see how your diner is doing,” Grandma May replied.
Upon entering the store, Grandma May looked around at the furnishings and remarked, “It’s not large, but it’s clean and tidy. Anyone who walks in will see that the hygiene standards are up to par, making them feel more comfortable dining here.”
Liberty laughed. “It’s a newly renovated store, so of course, it looks clean and tidy. I’ll make sure to keep it that way once we open for business.”
Grandma May nodded in agreement. “That’s the least you can do. Don’t compromise your values for the sake of profit. God rewards good people.”
“I understand, Grandma May,” Liberty replied.
Noticing Sonny picking up the bowl and feeding himself after Liberty set it down, Grandma May commented, “Sonny is growing up so quickly. He can eat by himself now. You should consider sending him to preschool; it’ll make things easier for you too.”
“Are you hiring anyone to help out?” she inquired.
Liberty assisted the elderly lady in taking a seat. “The store isn’t open yet, so I’m unsure how business will go. For now, I’ll manage on my own. If things go well, I might think about hiring someone. Seren and Mrs. Lane are scheduled to help on opening day.”
“Let me know if you need assistance. While I’m old and can’t do much, I have nine grandchildren. Just say the word, and they’ll come to help you.”
Liberty quickly replied, “There’s really no need for that. I’ll hire someone if business picks up.”
That was excessive.
The children of the York family were all destined for greatness.
She was merely opening a breakfast diner; there was no need for them to come and assist.
