paused to look at her. Then he spoke in a deep voice, “My reputation in Wiltspoon isn’t great. But honestly, when have I ever cared about that? What matters is that I accept my wife’s background, and it’s none of their business. We’re not dependent on them either.”
Serenity’s gaze remained fixed on him. After a moment, she reached out and gently caressed his face. Softly, she said, “We’re in this together, heading in the same direction. If we can’t face challenges side by side, we risk sinking and missing the shore together.”
“Even if we can’t stand at the bow together, we must hold on to the stern and avoid falling into the water.”
“Zachary, please give me time to adjust. If I truly can’t fit in… I won’t force myself. If you’re not ready to divorce anytime soon, I won’t push you. If you ever feel that I’m a burden or dislike me, just tell me. I’ll leave immediately and won’t bother you again.”
As long as she put in her best effort, she wouldn’t have any regrets.
That was Serenity’s mindset.
Zachary paid no mind to Sonny’s presence. He wrapped Serenity tightly in his arms and said in a husky voice, “We must never part! I’ve never gone back on my word. As long as you’re willing to cooperate, I’ll handle everything. I can make you a shareholder of York Corporation at any time, and you’ll be the richest lady in Wiltspoon. I’m ready to work under you forever and help you get even richer.”
Serenity sighed quietly as she wrapped her arms around his waist.
This was her first gentle embrace since discovering he had lied to her.
Though they were hugging, their hearts felt close yet distant.
He was ready to sacrifice everything for her, while she was determined to work hard and learn to be more.
She was determined to excel for his sake, hoping that one day she could walk alongside him instead of being pulled along.
“Aunt Ser? Uncle Zak?”
The third wheel lifted his head and blinked his large eyes, looking confused as he focused on the two adults.
Serenity quickly pushed Zachary away, then bent down to pick up Sonny. She turned to Zachary and said, “You can go to work now.”
Zachary playfully pinched Sonny’s cheek. “You really are a third wheel.”
