Chapter 923
“I married you without a wedding reception, and your sister is making my life miserable. It seems she can’t be bothered to act like a nice sister-in-law.”
Jessica had heard that the Browns pretended to adore Liberty and her sister before Hank and Liberty tied the knot.
However, after Liberty gave birth, the Browns revealed their true selves, likely believing that Liberty wouldn’t leave due to the child.
Jessica had to admit the Browns were convincing actors.
Now that Jessica was married to Hank, the Browns showed no interest in maintaining appearances.
Jessica genuinely cared for Hank; otherwise, she would have thought twice about marrying into this family.
As for the troublesome in-laws, she was confident she could handle them. They didn’t intimidate her.
There was nothing to fear as long as she held tightly to Hank’s heart and his wallet.
Amid her tears, Jessica complained.
Hank’s heart ached as he gazed at her tear-streaked face. Anger began to boil within him as he scanned the room. Wrapping his arm around Jessica’s shoulder, Hank said, “Chelsea, didn’t you keep an eye on Lucas? Look at what he did! You dare criticize Jessica? You’d be upset too if you were in her position.”
Chelsea responded without remorse, “Lucas is just a child. He doesn’t know any better.”
“He may not know better, but you do. Why didn’t you stop him when he made a mess in my room? Was that intentional?”
“Hank, I’m your sister. Is this how you treat your sister? I didn’t even know when Lucas went into your bedroom. I was cooking with Mom and didn’t hear anything. I assumed he was watching cartoons. How was I supposed to know he was wrecking your room?”
“It’s your fault for not locking your bedroom door. Don’t try to blame Lucas for your own mistake. I would have seen him.”
I would have gone into my room if I weren’t helping Mom with the cooking.
“What’s the point of you getting married? Your wife does nothing at home. Mom and Dad handle all the cleaning, grocery shopping, and cooking. They take care of all the chores. You’re not even being considerate of them; you just take your wife’s side.”
“Hank, you weren’t like this before.”
Chelsea felt her brother had only begun to support his wife since remarrying.
“Jessica and I need to work while Mom and Dad are retired at home. They don’t have to look after a child. What’s wrong with helping with house chores, grocery shopping, and cooking? Jessica and I pay for the food ourselves. We don’t spend a dime of Mom and Dad’s money. They used their own funds to run your household and care for your children. Have you and my brother-in-law ever paid for anything?”
Chelsea was left speechless.
“Don’t be upset, Jessica. I’ll replace all the makeup Lucas broke. We should remember to lock the bedroom door before we go out. We’re all family; let’s just move on and put this behind us.”
Hank gently wiped away Jessica’s tears.
Jessica didn’t mention her mother-in-law’s name while expressing her frustrations to Hank. Sensing where the conversation was going, Mrs. Brown remained silent. It bothered her that her son showered so much attention on his wife.
“Hank, I’m not against your sister. It’s just that Lucas can be very naughty. I only confronted your sister out of anger, but she was being unreasonable and tried to hit me. You’re family here, not me. I’m just an outsider.”
“My sister can be like that. Just ignore her from now on. You’re the head of our family, and I’ll deal with anyone who crosses you.”
