Chapter 739
Audrey remained silent during the journey to the company, leaving everyone unsure of her thoughts.
Alice felt a twinge of concern that her mother-in-law might take action against Serenity due to Elisa’s influence.
After all, as her niece, Serenity did not share a strong bond with Audrey, who would naturally prioritize Elisa, her own daughter.
Upon arriving at Stone Group, Audrey walked directly into the office building while Alice intentionally lagged behind to call Clive.
“Clive, Mom is here. She’ll be in your office shortly.”
After a brief pause, Clive replied, “Okay. Don’t worry. Mom is upset, but she won’t take any drastic measures.”
She might even think that Zachary was blind.
While Elisa was more than deserving of Zachary, it was unfortunate that he fell for Serenity of all people.
To make matters worse, Serenity was now their cousin.
If only they weren’t related by blood…
Clive was equally perplexed about how to handle the situation. They would likely not let Serenity off easily, believing that her presence was the reason behind Elisa’s failed pursuit.
“I won’t go upstairs. Mom seems really upset. I’ll wait for her in the VIP lounge on the first floor while you talk to her.”
“Understood.”
Alice ended the call and proceeded to the VIP lounge.
She had no idea how their conversation went, but Audrey only returned in the evening.
“Mom.”
Alice quickly exited the VIP lounge.
Although Audrey still appeared upset, her anger was less pronounced, which brought some relief to Alice.
“Alice, give me the car keys. I’ll head home on my own. You should wait here a bit longer and return with Clive.”
“Oh, okay.”
Alice handed her the car keys.
Mother-in-law. Audrey took the car keys and walked away with a tense expression. Serenity was completely unaware of the situation. After returning to Brynfield with Tania, her father-in-law called and urged his wife to come home. Serenity wanted Tania to stay for dinner, but Tania politely declined.
“Your father-in-law won’t eat if I don’t go back to keep him company. I’ll head home now. Ask Zack if he’s coming back for dinner. If he isn’t, feel free to eat whatever you like. There’s no need to save money for him.
“As wives, we need to learn to spend money. Only then will our husbands be motivated to earn it,” Tania said. Serenity laughed, noting that whether a husband was willing to support his wife’s spending greatly depended on him. If a man wanted to split everything equally, it might be better for her to live independently.
Tania left, and Serenity messaged Zachary. When she received his reply that he wouldn’t be back for dinner, she decided to visit her sister instead.
Liberty was making chili sauce. As soon as Serenity stepped through the door, the sharp aroma of spices filled the air, causing her to sneeze several times.
“Liberty, why does it smell so spicy?” she asked. Liberty was wearing gloves, a mask, and goggles.
“There are many people in Wiltspoon, and their tastes vary. A lot of them enjoy spicy food,” Liberty replied, her hands still busy preparing the sauce.
“If the chili sauce is made well, we might attract more returning customers.” Wiltspoonians weren’t particularly fond of spicy food, though a small number did enjoy it. Most preferred lighter flavors and liked making soups.
“Are the pickled beans ready?”
