“You should eat with me,” he said. However, the stress from work and his lack of appetite led to some weight loss. Truth be told, he hadn’t actually lost any weight. Still, if his wife claimed he had slimmed down, then he must have. He was what his wife said he was.
“Who would have expected to get sick? You should wear layers; it’s colder here than in Wiltspoon,” she remarked.
Zachary replied, “I showered in cold water…”
“You showered in cold water? No wonder you got sick!” Serenity exclaimed. She placed her hand on his face and then pinched him playfully. “Are you trying to show off? Taking a cold shower in the middle of winter? Should I pour a bucket of ice on you while you shower? I can assure you it will be more than refreshing.”
Zachary gazed at her with intense eyes, filled with passion. At first, Serenity didn’t understand, but his expression reminded her of the time he helped her change clothes… That must be why he took a cold shower.
Pulling her arm back, Serenity pretended nothing had happened and reached for the pills on the bedside table. She glanced at them and asked, “When are you supposed to take these? Is it time for your medicine?”
“I think I need to take them in about an hour. Since I’m still on IV drips, I don’t need any more medicine right now. Pills have side effects, you know.”
“That’s true,” Serenity replied. “I’ll ask the doctor to give you an injection when he comes for his rounds in the morning. Injections work faster, and you usually only need to take them once.”
Zachary was at a loss for words. He despised medicine, but compared to injections, he would prefer the pills. Just the thought of getting a jab made him uneasy.
“There’s some fruit and desserts, Seren. Would you like some?”
“I’m not hungry right now.”
Serenity glanced at the time before sitting on the bed next to her family members. Pulling out her phone, she said to Zachary as she prepared to pass the time watching videos, “Get some sleep. I’ll wake you when it’s time for your medicine. I’ll sleep once you’re done with the IV drips.”
“I’ll keep track of the time. You can sleep. I just woke up, so I don’t feel like sleeping right now.”
Zachary felt guilty about keeping his wife awake all night.
Serenity shifted her gaze from her phone to his face and scolded him, “Are you the patient, or am I? I’m here to take care of you. You better be snoring, or I’ll feel bad for accepting a salary from Mr. Tank.”
Zachary was left speechless.
