There was no point in crying over it anyway. Elisa would sob for days if it would make Zachary single again. “Are you really not going to cry, Elisa? You’d feel better after letting it all out,” her sister-in-law asked. Elisa looked at her, torn between tears and laughter. “Do you genuinely want to see me cry, Alice?”
“I don’t want you to bottle up your feelings. It would help you to release those pent-up emotions,” Alice explained. “I’ve already cried for him,” Elisa replied. She picked up her sister-in-law’s phone again, gazing at the photo for a long moment before saying, “I wonder who managed to capture Zachary’s heart and convince him to marry her. She must be beautiful and kind.”
It takes a tender heart to triumph over callousness. “I have a fiery temper and a strong will. It’s no surprise Zachary doesn’t like me,” Elisa said. “No, Elisa. You’re a wonderful person. I admire your character. It’s just that it’s not meant to be since Zachary doesn’t feel the same way. That’s okay. Your Mr. Right is out there somewhere, waiting for you. He’ll come into your life once you take your focus off Zachary,” Alice reassured her.
Elisa burst into laughter. “Alice, you don’t have to strain to find words to comfort me. My world would have crumbled if I had discovered today that Zachary is married, but I found out earlier. I haven’t pestered him and have stopped thinking about him for a while.
“Though I haven’t completely let him go, I have my pride. Now that he has a wife, I can move on. I won’t pursue what isn’t mine. If he were to stray from his marriage, he’d be a man who can’t keep his vows, and I wouldn’t want to love someone like that.”
Elisa’s laughter brought a small sense of relief to Alice.
Relieved, Alice reached out and gently ran her fingers through Elisa’s hair as she said, “Do you know what I like most about you, Elisa? You’re a bit willful and fiery, but you have a good heart.”
