Chapter 536
“It’s hard to say. I’ll return once my work there is complete.” “Let me know when your trip is. I’ll help you pack and drive you to the airport.” Since Serenity didn’t have a change of clothes in Zachary’s bedroom, she planned to head back to her room to get dressed and freshen up. As Serenity was about to leave, Zachary reached out to pull her back. His dark eyes were focused on her lovely face. “Is that all?” Serenity was momentarily speechless.
She blinked, struggling to understand the message he was trying to convey.
What more could there be? Was he expecting her to accompany him to the city where he would be conducting business? “Can family come along too?” Zachary’s lips twitched slightly. “Since I can’t go with you, isn’t it enough that I’ll drive you to the airport?” Zachary loosened his grip on her hand.
Serenity looked at his hand and frowned. “I thought you had been clever with your words lately, but it seems you’ve lost that touch. You keep leaving things unresolved, and I’m not clever enough to read your mind. I’m going to change out of my pajamas. Are we going out for breakfast or having it at home?” Serenity asked as she walked out. “You can decide.” Noticing his grumpy tone, Serenity paused at the bedroom door and glanced back at him before finally leaving. When Serenity came face-to-face with Grandma May, she greeted her with a cheerful “Good morning, Nana.” “Morning.”
Grandma May smiled happily as she watched Serenity exit her grandson’s bedroom.
Although the couple hadn’t done much, at least they were sharing a bed, which was a step forward. They ended up having breakfast at home, where Serenity prepared a simple meal for both Grandma May and Zachary. Suddenly, Serenity’s phone rang.
Thinking it was her sister, Serenity picked up her phone and looked at the screen.
She glanced at the display screen and saw an unfamiliar number. A grimace crossed her face; any unknown number that appeared on her phone typically belonged to her unscrupulous relatives. Since Elisa had defended her last time, these individuals had backed off for a while. What were they up to now that they were calling her again? Reluctant to engage, Serenity rejected the call.
They dialed her number again, but she cut the call once more. After their third attempt, Serenity slammed her cutlery down, catching the attention of her grandmother and grandson. Holding the phone, she answered the call, her icy tone reflecting her irritation. “What do you want now?”
“Serenity, I’m your granddad!” Old Mr. Hunt scowled, wanting to express his frustration but holding back due to his grandchildren’s current situation. “So?”
“Can’t you be nicer? I’m your granddad, your elder! Don’t you have any respect for your elders? I don’t know how your parents raised you.”
“I’m sorry, but my parents passed away when I was young, so they couldn’t raise me that way. What, are you going to tell on me to my parents? Go ahead. My dad is your son. Show him you’re his father and give him a proper dressing-down.”
Old Mr. Hunt’s face flushed with anger. “Are you trying to rush me to my grave?” His son and daughter-in-law had been gone for over a decade, and Serenity’s words implied he should take his complaints to them in the afterlife.
